  1. Well I had a great ride today. Weather was fantastic, sunny, cool and
still, and I felt great after feeling very flat the past 2 weeks. Posted
a PB for the Warrandyte climb dropping my best from 17:25 to 16:50, and
another PB on the Diamond Creek climb from 5:40 to 5:10. And also got my
avg speed to 26.3 up from a best of 25.9 (not helped by walking in
Heidelberg but more on that later).

Only a small group today of me, Brett, GPLama, Essendon 93 and Blah
(only one coffee ordered at Smiths Gully but still took forever). Dutch
wasn't there, some claim of StKilda crits but I suspect that was his
cover for going down for the BRW triathlon (come on Dutch fess up, your
secret's safe with me 😉 I can lend you my tri bars if you want ). The
others promised to go easy on Brett and I so we did the St Andrews leg,
managing to hang on till Hurstbridge and then being dropped.

I think everyone was keeping an eye out for small blue cars with P
plates as we went through Diamond Creek. But this week the fun didn't
start till we hit the back streets of Greensborough. I reckon it took us
an hour and a half to do the last 10km from there. GPLama showed us he
is ready to become the BR bike mechanic ... NOT! GPL's puncture had us
timing how quick he could do a change over. First of all the replacement
tube wouldn't pump up, tried a different pump, removed the tube to find
a hole in the spare (10 mins gone). Borrowed spare from Essendon, amid
jokes of going through all our spares, and GPL starts to furiously pump
"ninja style". As he's pumping all four of us glance down and see the
tyre has escaped from the rim and there are cries of "stop pumping!"
just in time for the tube to go BANG! Followed by all of us cacking
ourselves laughing. GPL borrows another tube (jokes about using all
tubes now threatening to become a reality). Ninja style pumpign
abandoned and we eventually get on our way 30 mins after stopping. Ride
down to Heidleberg event free but just before hitting Burgundy St find
the road blocked for the Heidelberg Fair Parade. By that stage any
thoughts of gettign home at a reasonable hour have been abandoned so we
settle down to watch the parade (GPL showed way to much enthusiasm for
    the Boot Scooting display).

    fightin words, fella!

Actually, I got a first at StK!
    ...if you dont count the 2 cheating [censored] who went for 3 laps on C's coat-tails 😠 😠 😠 😠 😠 😠
Commisar standing at finish line chatting with mates and back to course.
whined at him about the guys ho by that stage had been tagging Cgrade for 2 laps. Arent 'nawty' riders like this meant to drop back to their respective bunch?

Then i when i claim for third Im told "Oh, we're only paying for first and second. Didnt they mention that at the briefing???

    NO 😠 😠 😠 😠 😠 😠

Must say the final sprint was fun tho.
did all the right things (ignoring the 'cheats' :rolleyes🙂
stayed third wheel. stuck to it thru the corner. Let the other 2 wind up and then BAM BABY! (insert images of big messy fat sprinting thing on green bike here).
Thinks it might be time for Cgrade at StK. I have done faster average speeds commuting

    PS WTF is "Ninja-style-pumpin"???

inflating tyre whilst leaping up backwards into celing-manhole?
being surrounded by a dozen flats and being attacked by them one-after-the-other?

Awesome work Dutch. How many were in D-grade? Not paying out for third is tightarse [censored]. I'll be looking for your wheel at Kew Wed 😄

As for the Ninja-style, not sure how that name came about, but admit it GPL it was easier to get the tire on 🙂 Plus you take out the risk of puncturing again from the tire levers.

Yep, the ninja move was the leverless tyre levering, not the pumping.. I'd
put money on that if I was riding the Conti Gatorskins there would have been
no flat.. My stash of spare tubes is thinning out, I'll bring them along
Wednesday and allocate them after the race..

Cheers all for waiting and the spare tube*2 🙂

Nice work FD... tagging onto another grade is definitely cheating, unless
its a lower grade 😉.. and not paying out 3rd place is robbery! Ess picked
up $15 for 4th at Kew last week...

Hey Dej, where is your post about staying with the D grade bunch last week
(till the 3 lap sign was out IIRC)..?? Looks like your form is peaking at
    the right time..

    cheers,

    .

That's gonna be tricky when you'll no doubt be in front of me again
(insert images of FD sticking pins in small/light/hillclimbers dolls here 🙄 )

Thanks🙂 yeah ive been getting a bit better..
Last monday i also did a PB up the 1/20 ride.
At Kew, I was going pretty well until about the 23 min mark, then started
suffering a bit and got dropped.
I figured i'd just take a couple of slow laps and then get outa the way
during the 3 laps to go thing.

Unfortunately that was my last race until next season. I wont be able to
    make it on wednesday🙁
Best wishes to all on the last race🙂

Let me state, just for the record I have never owned, worn or even considered wearin speedos, tribars, running shoes (well...), swimming goggles, fake tan, aero-anything, nor do i have an inner ability to ride in a non-straight line (besides abdu-style sprint technique).

i think the blurb on the front page of wwwshifterbikes.com says it all regarding 'tri-hards'...

i didn't see anything on that site about tri-hards but i guess it just
didn't show up in my non-microsoft endorsed web browser

i should warn you it's not cool to swim naked in public.

I took part in the BRW tri, and yes, word Tri clothing, from scody. Skimply stuff to say the least, but what the h*ell, it was fun. Might take part in another short sprint tri, and set up my Cervelo as tri bike, should be fun. 🙂
Once the bike is in tri config, it could be fun to participate in a time trial or two. Does anyone know of any around Mel?
Will the BRs go on over autumn and winter?

only 12 so no issue with only payin 1+2 but not tellin us at the start, meant i gave short shrift to the 2 cheaters, er, escapees when they latched onto C.
next time I'll go no matter what, if they look like gettin away with it (so to speak).

Usually the StK's have had (on 2 previous occassions) somewhere between 20-25?
