I have read that you go through a "bad patch" after a few days of starting a
LC diet however I am now in day 5 and yesterday and today I have had a V bad
headache. Have others had the same problems? How long is it likly to last?

Give it a few more days. Your body is essentially detoxing.Priscilla

For me, it's 1.5 days. For my wife, it was 6 days. Take motrin, drink
water, sleep. YMMV.The first time I ever went on LC, I was 300 pounds. Odd things
happened for the first week or so. My hip joints felt... loose. And
one night, I had this weird fever, but I felt great. Just hot. Those
things don't happen anymore. But he headache always does. One
high-carb meal guarantees the 1.5 day headache for me.brian

Whatever happened to Debbie Cusick? Here's her old canned response:
Carb Withdrawal (canned response)
Have you started a low carb diet within the last few days? Do not be
surprised if you start to feel achy "flu-like" symptoms early on in
your low carb WOE. The most common time for these symptoms to hit is
around days 3-5, though they have been reported as early as
day 2, and have lasted into the beginning of the second week. People
have reported feeling light-headed, weak, headachy, ill, feeling like
they are going to pass out, like they have "been run over by a
steamroller".It seems to be a side-effect of your body switching from carb-burning
mode to fat-burning mode. If you are trying to give up caffeine at
the same time your symptoms may be compounded but people who try to
pass if off as only caffeine withdrawal are wrong because many folks
who had already given up caffeine sometime in the past, or who chose
not to give up caffeine when starting LC, also have the same symptoms.Typical symptoms include:
nausea, achiness, dizziness, tiredness, lightheadedness,trembling,
blinding headachesIf you experience this you are not alone, but are a very typical new
low carb dieter. The good news is that it is temporary, and most
people
report that by the end of week two they feel better than they have
felt in years! While nothing seems to alleviate it completely except the passage of
time you can ease the symptoms a bit by drinking plenty of water,
getting your potassium and calcium/magnesium supplements, and taking
some aspirin or ibuprophen if necessary.

fails - every month - this started probably 6 months ago. Doc says live on
tylenol for those days. They are hormonal headaches and almost as bad as
migraines. Dr said take the tylemol couple days before I was supposed to
start - well mother nature nature messed that one up when I started 4 days
early and got the headache the same morning (1/2 day before I actually
started). So this is day two - trying to make the headache go away. I hate
getting older - I am 44 1/2. This must be pre-menopause [censored] - and I don't
like it. Carbs actually help the headache. Go figure - I am trying to be
good - really.

soda or chocolate? Caffeine withdrawal headaches can be KILLER! I
recommend tapering off with something like coffee, mixing caffeinated
and de-caffeinated, eventually using less and less of the caffeinated
version.--

As other have affirmed, there is a certain period of headaches, sometimes
weakness and/or dizziness that lasts anywhere from 3 to 7 days according to
anecdotes. For me it was 4 days. This is the period where your body has to
make the adjustment from burning the readily available glucose from the
easily converted sugar and starches that you were eating, to now having to
work a bit to break down fat cells to convert and burn as fuel.Once you get past that period, you will be amazed at how good you feel. No
hunger pangs, no getting sleepy a half hour after meals, etc. To me it's
been well worth the healthy feeling even if it were not for the weight loss!Peter

My headache usually starts the day before or the day I start my period - I
can almost tell you when I will start. I get the knots in the back of the
neck and pain right above my eye (sometimes one sided). I mentioned this to
my doctor a couple weeks ago when I had my annual checkup. I told her I
thought it was from hormones (maybe pre-menopause causing higher hormones -
I am 44 1/2) Her answer was it more than likely could be and to start
taking tylenol a couple days before I should start my period. That is all
well and good - except this month - I got the headache and started 4 days
early - go figure. The headaches last appoximately 3 days into my period
until the flow slows. Then it just goes away. This has happenend now for
about 6 months in a row.My speculation - your daughter - could be hormones - if her body is getting
ready to start puberty. I suppose any abnormal increase in hormones no
matter what the age could cause headaches. Google puberty and headaches and
see if anything comes up. Also, start keeping a headache journal - when
they start - did she eat anything different - has she changed the
consumption amount of caffeine - what time of time it starts - where the
pain is - how long it lasts. If you take her to a dr later on - they may
need the information.Quoted message said:

I just hope the information can help your daughter or anyone else that gets
recurring headaches for this reason.

I give in to eating one or two dark chocolate hershey kisses - but the
headaches last about 3 days now. Nothing seems to get rid of them. The
tylenol helps but doesn't eliminate them.
