You do realise alcohol oxidises into acetaldehyde
then ketone bodies & burns much faster & more cleanly than carbs?
gtoomey
after the stress ive been under, i dont honestly care how it metabolizes.
heh.. i just need a moment to relax. as infrequently as i drink, im due.

Pure alcohols such as gin, rum, vodka, whiskey as long as they aren't mixed
with anything that has carbs.
I don't know the answer to your question, but how about a small glass of
dry wine instead?

Basically any plain old spirits will do. Vodka, gin, whiskey, rum. Just be
careful you don't get one of those fou-fou rums that has a bunch of sugar
and flavoring added to it. Dry wines are pretty lc too. Just be careful,
because when you're on lc the effect of liquor is sometimes far greater than
when you're not lc'ing (sometimes called the "cheap date syndrome"😉.
I like sf Tang and vodka, or rum and Diet Coke myself, or a spritzer made
with dry wine or sherry and soda water on ice with a twist of some kind of
citrus.

And if you're trying to lose weight, make sure you consider the calories in
the drink you're having. Consuming too much will impact your weight loss.

1. Alcohol metabolism can contribute to lipogenesis. If you're trying
to lose fat then you're not.
http://www.elmhurst.edu/~chm/vchembook/642alcoholmet.html
2. If you're trying to alleviate stress, then why lurk/read/post on
asdl-c? Why not spend time with DH instead?
3. Using alcohol to "relax" can be habit forming.
4. Why are you "due" to drink alcohol? Have you been building up
no-alcohol-consumption points?

Tia,
Yesterday in the Houston Chronicle there was an article about a low
carb margarita mixer that might interest you called Zilch. I bought
some yesterday and can't wait to try it. Here's where the story is:

I thought you might be interested too.

Be sure to eat with your drink so your blood sugar won't go too low.

i dont need proof of that. im losing weight too quickly because im
essentially following JC's advice and havent had a real meal in close to two
weeks now. i dont care how it metabolises because my weight loss isnt the
biggest thing on my mind.

there is nothing i want more, but i only get a few hours a day to visit DH,
and theres a bunch of worrysome things going on with that. im hardly a
lurker, queenie would be happier if i was. i am a low carber, i like the
people here and the conversations... its an unmoderated newsgroup, why cant
i read and chat?
Quoted message said:
3. Using alcohol to "relax" can be habit forming.
i have an extremely low tolerance to alcohol, so i'm the cheap date, one
drink and im pretty much gone. i dont like getting drunk, i never get that
way, i just want to relax a little bit. folks have a glass of wine (or
whatever) with dinner, im entitled if i so choose. however, i do appreciate
your concern.
Quoted message said:4. Why are you "due" to drink alcohol? Have you been building up
no-alcohol-consumption points?
i was on antidepressants for over 10 years. because of the meds, it greatly
amplified the drunk feeling and i didnt like it. i probably had 20 drinks
in my entire life. im not building up points, i just want a drink, and i
want to know whats safe to have.
thanks.

i dont like wine, or beer... just something mixed with a diet cola or diet
sprite or something would do nicely. like i said, i dont do the alcohol
thing much, just wanted a quick something or other.

Right now it sounds like your a no-carber. No food. Booze only.
There's a name for it. Wait it'll come to me.

10 years of antidepressants explains a lot. Good luck to you. You
have too many issues that have absolutely nothing to do with
low-carbing that will negatively affect your ability to perform same.

That's got to be one of the worst SIGs ever. Just an opinion.
Try a Scotch and soda or plain water, with a twist of lime. That's what I
used to drink when I wanted to have a few but not get a hangover.

agreed. In fact, instead of typing here, she should work on forcing some
food down. If you can't handle solid food, try a protein shake or something.
