  1. "International Sign Language for Slighted Cylists"....

On the way home in the luverly wet today, and at the notorious road squeeze at the end of Bridge Rd heading up to Kew, got nicked by a kindly 20-something in a Conformodore attempting to shave 0.75 seconds off his trip, and as I was (inevitably) catching up to him further up the road decided that it was worthwhile informing him of his actions... The question is, what signs/gestures (apart from the obvious 1 or 2 fingered salutes!) work best in the short-period of time available, and through tinted glass and over car stereos. I'm not one for yelling matches so a simple, easily comprehended gesture is helpful. I cobbled one together, but do any of you out there have any fool-proof gestures to convey your required message?

Of course, the fact that a REAL HUMAN BEING knocks on their window is often a shocking enough confrontation for most cagers. 😉

That intersection is potentially nasty. I cummute through there every day.
Were you thinking of contact or non-contact type gestures?

Especially when they are brandishing a steel bike pump... hehehehe...

I usually find that the perpetrators of such acts as squeezing you out,
pulling out in front of you, etc, are oblivious to the consequences of
their actions. It's unlikely that they would even be looking at you to
see any gesture you make, assuming they 'saw' you in the first place.

    Non-contact, non-verbal most appropriate!

Yes, I've seen a few other cyclists jump onto the footpath to avoid that piece. I've just got to remember to stay out in the middle of the lane and block the traffic, rather than force a squeeze...

I am a big fan of the "use your fcking eyes" gesture where you look back
over a shoulder and point to your eyes. This not only reminds them that
their eyes should not just be for decoration but also lets you give them the
old two fingered salute (I actually prefer to say that "I forked him..."😉.

Another favourite for me is when cars creep over the bike lane when they are
coming to a stop. I generally slow down as I pass them and give them a bit
of a "move over" gesture that consists of three or so points towards the
middle of the road. I had to do this one three times tonight going North
    along Wellington Rd.

    Ride On,

Flat-handed slap to the roof, just above the driver's door makes a
resounding bass reverb above the duff-duff stereo.

You may care to reserve this for occasions where there are one or two mates
riding with you, or check for appropriate escape routes where needed :-)

If you are also a motorcyclist it pays to remember that bike gloves
don't offer as much protection as thick winter leather gloves. Also
worth remembering if taking other non-verbal action against items such
    as side mirrors.

A few days ago I was cycling down St Kilda Street approaching the
junction of Bay Street. Red lights, rather than fight my way past the
two cars in front of me who'd only have to overtake me again, I hung
    back.

Bad move, turns out that both these cars were turning left and didn't
think it necessary to use their indicators. Left turn green comes on
    and they take off.

Taken unawares I'm look over my shoulder to see if there are any others
wanting to turn left, ready to lift the bike on to the pavement if need
be, when the wing mirror of a car moving past me hit my left hand.

More than a little put out I gently knocked on the door of the car as it
continued past. The passenger tried to get out but couldn't 'cause I
was in the way, the driver however came around at a rate of knots. I
quickly dismounted ready to defend myself if necessary.

To the motorist's credit he wasn't an [censored], he was genuinely unaware
his mirror made contact with me and wanted to know why I'd hit his car
when he was legally turning left. Can't say the same for myself, I let
him have it with both barrels. I'm sure he went away knowing he'd done
wrong but I could have handled it a [censored] load better.

It was poor cycling on my part, I should have claimed the lane and in
that I contributed to the situation. I was somewhat surprised at the
reaction that knocking on a motorist's door got and frankly I'm not sure
it's a smart idea. When driving I don't retaliate when getting carved
up etc; I just avoid the situation and carry on driving when safe to do
so. Then again I haven't actually hit another car in this country yet,
whilst in a car that is.

the footpath on the left has recently become a shared path. This will get extended across the briidge soon...

As for hand signals i find morse code on the rearview mirror quite good (but only in extreme cases). Universal code for "You @%#$ing eedgit"

The expressive continental hand-flick: contemptuous, brush-off, go &*%$ your mother, it means all those things. No fingers pointed, nothing expressed directly. You have to practise lots, and ride with Italians to get it right. You can swear in a foreign language at them as well, if it helps.

Ahh yes, my favorite -The Taxi Slap!! Fantastic stuff. Especially if you can get the roof of the vehicle to flex in and out with the slap. Big 'boing bop-ing' noise combined with a slap and a sweaty cyclist right outside the window. Often makes the drive think they have hit you...

I am more and more dissatisfied with the finger salutes. Here's my
    favourites.

Hand to your neck where it meets your head, fingernails up, flick forward
until it escapes from under your chin. (Italian, rude but not sexual
    apparently).

Right arm straightens on handlebars (straight & utility bars only, no
dropbars), left hand bends at elbow and fists across right inner elbow.
(Sexual threat, not specific to any one gender).

Right arm straightens on handlebars, left hand forms two fingers which tap
twice over right inner elbow. (You are a drug addict).

Fingernails out, two fingers on right hand V, place hand to face across your
mouth, under your nose, fingertips to your eyes. (I will blind you,
Russian, GULAG, a serious threat historically carried through by the
    thieves).

    I don't use this one.
Brazil offers: finger nails inwards, tips towards ear, rub back of hand up
and down cheek (You drive like a bad shave).

    You can add to this gesture if time and balance permit;

First bounce the back of your hand against your upper thigh/groin. Then sweep your arm into the above hand flick.
(Sexual threat of sorts) I think it’s an invitation of sorts?

On one occasion yesterday, after being squeezed out at a roundabout, I
caught up with the car at the next red light. His right window was open.
"Why did you try to kill me just before?" I asked loudly but calmly right
