I just swapped my rear Avid mech out for a Shimano Deore XT V brake.
Weighed the V plus cable against the Avid plus cable plus rotor, found a diff of 110g - i.e. about 1.75 ounces.
One ounce = 28 grams.

IMO, the whole point of disk brakes is to get the braking mechanism out of the water, crud, and mud. Weight isn't as much as a factor as the functionality.
Beating up on an easily replacable disk is better than ripping the hell out of the sides of your aluminum rim with embedded junk in the pads especially in the winter, riding through puddles and sand from the sanding trucks and hearing that gawd-awful scraping sound on your Open Pros.
