  1. I've been gradually taking in my jeans and/or switching to smaller sizes
as I've lost weight. I've been giving my sewing machine a real workout
lately. I'm delighted at the smaller size, but I have found one
drawback to it -- the front side-pockets of my jeans are slowly
narrowing. I can barely fit my hand in the opening of the pockets now
-- LOL! I'm TRYING to wait until I reach goal before I invest in new
jeans. (They don't HAVE back pockets.)

I'm very picky about jeans because it's hard to find ones that fit
right. My waist is about 2 sizes smaller, proportionally, to my hips &
thighs and often the waist doesn't go up high enough to feel comfortable
AND gaps in the back, so I really have to try them on first. Besides, I
only have 19 lbs to go.

I think that's a plus! Imagine - you'll have half a pocket left on each side
    and that's no good either.

wearing jeans seem like a waste of your hour-glass figure IMHO!

  6. I need my pockets so I discovered a radical way of altering pants that
works. Cut the back edge of the side seam, and take the inches off from
there and rest. If you trim the front edge neatly, you won't be able to
    tell they are altered.

Sweaters were another challenge. not only do you need to take in the sides
and arms, but also the hem of the body. they were suddenly all tunics. I
left some long though -good for tucking in the winter weather

I took off a total of 8 inches from my winter parka. find the last seam they
assembled the coat with and open it up- turn the coat inside out and take in
the sides. I still have a down vest to do, I think it needs to be opened at
    a armhole.

I needed to do all the sewing- but also thought of my curse- the weight
seems to stand still after the sewing begins. Silly, curses can be broken

  7. I chose to alter because these were new clothes I got while losing. It would
be a waste to not use my talents.

Now why didn't *I* think of that? That's a GREAT idea! Taking in
sweaters IS a problem because you have to keep it from unraveling. Ziz-
zagging works well enough, but then the seam becomes wavy and stretched.
I think next time I'll just do the anti-unravelling part by hand.

Good point. While back pockets are convenient, I think they make the
butt look bigger and I don't really need any assistance in that
    departmnt -- NONE.

Well, 3/4's of an hourglss, anyway -- I seem to be missing some of the
top part :-) (more and more each day)

Well placed back pockets of the correct size make the butt look smaller,
actually. Those small pockets with the flaps aren't flattering.

    I guess it's just a matter of perception. I think of a woman's waist-
to-rear as basically heart-shaped (in the romantic sense), and pockets
break up those smooth, curved lines. After all, you rarely see
Valentine hearts with squares on each lobe :-)

My daughter, reading over my shoulder, suggests you make patch pockets for
the front of a thigh - very fashionable, and practical : )
