  1. Hello All,

I'm new to this group, but my husband and I have been following a low carb
way of life for six years. My husband initially lost over 130 lbs, and I
was able to lose the few extra pounds that I had. Over the last couple of
years, even though we have maintained a low carb lifestyle, the weight has
begun to creep back up, especially for my husband who has gained back about
30 lbs. No matter how much he restricts his carb intake, he can't seem to
lose the extra 30 lbs again. My question is, is there a point when your
body becomes so acclimated to low carb eating, that it no longer works?
Should he take a break and begin eating carbs again? Any suggestions would
    be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Irina

  2. He's older now. He likely has slowed down. It is now time to practice
eating less and/or doing more exercise. It's definite possible to gain
    weight on low carb.

  3. Roger,

Thanks for your reply. He is older now, but still only 34 y.o. And, he
does spend an hour at the gym 3 days a week...when he lost most of his
weight he was at the gym every day though. But, you might be onto
something when you say he should eat less. He loves his big ribeye steaks!

fitday.com is free. he can use it to track his calories for a while. If he
tracks carefullly for a week or two, while his weight is not changing, then
he'll learn his maintenace level. Then it can work on eating less - say 500
kcal less, plus doing about 500 kcals or exercise per day. that should
produce about a two pounds of weight loss per week, give or take.

    what does he weigh?

  5. Thanks for your suggestion. I'll try to get him to look at fitday...it
would be good for him to track his calories for a change. Right now he
weighs about 230 pounds - he's 5' 10". He started Atkins at over 330 and
got down to just under 200 at one point.

Get him to start cycling.....an hour each day and more on weekends might do
    the trick.
