It used to be that net carbs were the total carbohydrate amount minus the fiber portion of carbohydrates. Nowadays manufacturers also subtract sugar alcohols. People have varying degrees of tolerance for sugar alcohols and it's an ongoing debate here as to whether to count them, just count them partially or not at all. Other than erythritol, I mostly just avoid them completely. If sugar alcohols give you hellacious flatulence and barely controlled diarrhea, then GOOD NEWS -- you're not absorbing them very well so they probably can be safely deducted from the overall carb count :-)
