The aquisitive gadget geek in me says "buy it"
but at 425 grams, it would have to be a long trip before it payed for
itself in any fuel savings, and as I don't think it would be much good
for proper cooking, it might only be used on short trips.
so can anyone see any real use for this ?
I think I have talked myself out of buying it already
I see from a post back on Sept 2, that Chris Townsend has tested it.
How was it Chris, if you are reading. (maybe I should have bought a
recent TGO)
My review hasn't appeared in TGO yet! I think it'll be in the next
issue. There is a description and preliminary review in the latest
edition of my Backpacker's Handbook (just out).
The advantage of the Jetboil is fuel efficiency. It has a built in heat
exchanger and a neoprene pot cover and these do make a big difference.
However even with this increased fuel efficiency the Jetboil isn't quite
as light as a stove like the Primus Micron or MSR Pocket Rocket plus a
litre size titanium or aluminium pot.
I've taken it on a couple of backpacking trips and it's fine for the
sort of one pot cooking I do - boil and simmer basically.
