  1. Coopers Pale in one hand, chippies in another.. ahhhh.. relax time..

We all survived ( mostly ;-) ). I think 'most' of us were pretty happy
with our riding (<cough> pinch flats suck <cough>😉. It was a fun weekend.
Thanks to Snozza and crew for such a superb event!! Thanks to our team
and thanks to every other rider who made the race "cool"..

Never did spot 'eddiec' - where were you?

I'm sure results will be up soon:

14th in class not a bad effort hippie (for a roadie ;-p).
Getting passed by the likes of Sid, Chris et al puts ones own skills into perspective.

Hey that wasn't me.. the others did all the work. We
would've been around 10th had I not increased our
time with pinch flats on two laps.. :-(
I am happy though - my times beat last year's - once
you take out the 10min per puncture (I timed them).

My best time last was around 1:14 and this year it
would've been 1:10. The difference being this year I
rode an over-geared, rigid, singlespeed with
    downhill tyres. :-)

Yeah.. I watched Sid fly by on one of the longer hills.
    Damn freak!
I should actually go to some of the races and watch
them hit a tricky section - maybe I'll learn something?

How about Saul Britton with 24 laps in 24 hours.. solo!!

I was there! Well, kinda 🙂 Already put my report up: (http://www.cyclingforums.com/t197231-kona-24-race-report.html)

If you were lucky enough to see/hear it, I was the first mechanical failure of the race! Came off that damn ramp on my first lap, buckling the wheel. Of course, my team-mates were sorely overprepared, did one lap each, and made me do the rest solo! Did four, that was enough... Spent the rest of the time at our lovely campsite with a view - up on the ridge towards the showers. Great spot.

So you heard Saul did 24 laps too did you? I did, so was surprised to see the official results only say 19... Either way- freakin machine that guy!

Now just nursing monster bruises and choking at the cost of a new rim and build.... ouchy. One expensive race!

I'll comment on that later :-)

Didn't see that, but I did hear the commentator say "blah.. blah.
OHHH!! OH! Can we get some assistance to the ramp section!"
obviously when someone went down - I think on the finishing
ramp not the start but I could be mistaken.

It makes more sense now.. I heard he did 24 laps and I wanted to see
his lap times coz his first one was a stormer. I checked and a lot were
over 1hr - it didn't even click that he couldn't have done 24 laps! doh!
Like you said 19 laps is still phenomenal - the dude mustn't be able to
    sit down for a month!

I was cleaner than last year I think - didn't break anything off this time.
I screwed the brakes on the SS on the first lap and the things would
stick on and then release, stick on then release. Gimme a "brake"!
Actually, how do I identify a fractured rib? ;-) I elbowed myself in
the chest, I think, when I went OTB.. made a freaky clicking noise
when I stretched yesterday.. "That bit's never done that before..."
A little bruising and the standard sore back - not at all bad for my
dirt virgin-esque riding. Oh.. and I was riding clipless offroad for the
first time - actually went quite well - helped by the fact that my chicken
[censored] would unclip a foot before a few of the tricky looking corners. I
raced in sneakers last year - Phil on our team rode in Blundstones this
    year!!! Rock on!

You may have been only a bike length or 2 behind me on 'that' ramp. I vaguely remember seeing someone flying as I looked back.

Hmmm... first lap traffic with extra dust anyone?........ anyone?

Only if you were towards the back of the pack - I think I would've been one of the last dozen or so people over that ramp... From the feedback being provided at the FGP website there were quite a few 'departures' on that ramp, some quite nasty.

Dust was a bugger all round... Part of the penalty of being slower is you were literally choking on the dust of the speedy ones. Still, I'd prefer dust to mud anyday.

I started at the back so as not to get run over in the 'Le Mans' start. Last time I did any running it was for a tram. I knew I'd pass people once on the bike. There was still a traffic jam at the narrow tree gap before the ramp. I passed & was passed a lot in the first half lap. Ate dust for most of that lap too. I had an 'off' at the rocky drop. I'd remembered it from last year but rolling in too slow looking for the best line. Over balanced just after the actual drop, turned off the track & stalled the front wheel on a stick/rock & flew OTB. Wasn't a wasted effort though, some guys got me on video!

there is something about 24 hr enduros that u just cant get anywhere else ( umm.. mindblowing exhaustion??? a totally raw ar$e from *just riding*???? tree hugs in the middle of the night??? pain.. pain..pain...pain..pain...pain...??? )

Bugger about the pinch flats hippy 🙁 .... and congrats on getting to the end!!! WOOHOOOOOO

so... if I chicken out on doing mont solo in '05, wanna team up for pairs???? 😉 😄

Mountain bike enduros are friendlier than say, a crit. Everyone
knows that everyone else is fighting their own demons and a lot
of people give encouragement when passing, cold beer is served,
popping a wheelie gets a cheer not a fine, if you're not one of the
'serious' racers it doesn't matter if you stop to watch the sunrise,
you can ride it in Blundstones (that's for you Phil!), etc..

You wanna do the Mont solo? You are much sillier than me!! :-)
I really don't think I'm built for that kind of endurance. I like my
pain swift and intense rather than constant and grating..
You never know what silliness I'll get myself into though..

    Try:

One - which one was that?? The real lap one or warm up???? Have we started yet??? What are we doing again?? Ok - so this IS lap one right????

Two: is this the first lap or the final lap???? We are doing two laps??? So this is the 2nd lap??? O - it's lap one....

Three: Did I miss a lap??? What lap are we on? Have we finished??? [censored]! It's lap two!!!!!

Four: Is this it?? Have we finished now?? We've done lap two right????? Did we do lap three???? Just pass me a dinosaur dude ..... 😉 Think I've bonked from counting too hard...

Did anyone see the SBS footage on friday or saturday nights world sport
at the end. I saw it but my vcr is dead and it wasn't repeated. I
would like to trade with anyone video footage I have mainly the start.
Anyway managed 9th in 4s I did our fastest lap even after leaving our
first rider waiting for a minute or to in transition. (enduro noob).
