A 48-spoke wheel with three broken spokes?

Either that, or one with 18 spokes on the left, 27 on the right?

I answer-nope, none of the spokes are broken, pic on the way.

What, some goofy three-flange thing with three rows of 15 radially
spoked? Or a 36 on which one quarter of them were double-inserted at
the factory by the brain-dead assembly machine?

If the latter, then the right would naturally be spoked so that 18
    pull and 9 push.

    Whatdayabet the flange is broken.........

  9. Fourty FIVE spokes? I can't see how you could get an even number per
side, unless it was a three or five sided wheel!

Even then it is going to be tough!

That's bound to be a really fast wheel; it's got more trailing spokes than
leading spokes, for more "pulling power"!

Looks like Sheldon's Symmetrispoke wheel. Horrible!

    Carl Fogel

technically, to maintain equal spoke length on the drive side, the rim's
got to be drilled different. if the first pulling spoke is #1, and the
extra hub hole is drilled in the center [opposite the hole on the
opposite side], the extra spoke should be much closer to the second rim
hole of the opposite spoke [theoretically at exactly the same place],
not in the middle of the two.

    very interesting pattern though!

So who came up with this idea. Apparently there was a suspicion that
drive torque required more spokes. However, that is untrue because
all the right side spokes contribute to propelling the bicycle, some
getting tighter, some looser by an equal amount, thereby contributing
equally to torque transmission. Another kind of "standing on the
    spokes" misunderstanding.

Not only that, but the double spokes must be half as tight as the
single ones on the right side of the wheel or there would be a net
twist on the hub center shaft. Hubs are often ruined by incorrect
spoke lacing that is far less forceful than this concept. I notice
that there is an identified flange failure in the picture as well.

I guess someone rode this wheel but I can't guess what the builder
    thought.

Impressive, almost on a par with the rare 25-speed "Dual Drive" Phil
