What, some goofy three-flange thing with three rows of 15 radially spoked? technically, to maintain equal spoke length on the drive side, the rim's got to be drilled different. if the first pulling spoke is #1, and the extra hub hole is drilled in the center [opposite the hole on the opposite side], the extra spoke should be much closer to the second rim hole of the opposite spoke [theoretically at exactly the same place], not in the middle of the two.
So who came up with this idea. Apparently there was a suspicion that drive torque required more spokes. However, that is untrue because all the right side spokes contribute to propelling the bicycle, some getting tighter, some looser by an equal amount, thereby contributing equally to torque transmission. Another kind of "standing on the spokes" misunderstanding.
Not only that, but the double spokes must be half as tight as the single ones on the right side of the wheel or there would be a net twist on the hub center shaft. Hubs are often ruined by incorrect spoke lacing that is far less forceful than this concept. I notice that there is an identified flange failure in the picture as well.
I guess someone rode this wheel but I can't guess what the builder thought.
