Not true. What happens 'in here' matters in the 'real world'. Consider the
great-interconnectedness-of -all-things. A buttery flapping it's wings in
China and such. But more to the point: We know my name is not *really* Surf
and you're not really Roger, but if either were to vanish would not Usenet
be a better or poorer place? Who knows what tiny or profound effects we've
had innumerable lurkers or frequent posters via humor, insults and the
witless tripe we bandy about? Just think of all the vicious tauntings Oz has

it's wrong and unhealthy when you live a lie. that's what you do. that's
the answer to your question, you are not authentic with people, family,
friends, co-workers, etc.

we don't all live lies roger. we don't all have a repressed side of who we
are that we feel the need to live out (as long as we can do it in anonymity) on

I can only speak for myself. Roger/Jo/Frasier/Syndens is someone who may have used rec.running to do the research and character development for a manuscript. I don't even know the truth of that.

The person writing behind the various pseudonyms writes well and hooks people. Actually he doesn't hook people in, people choose to bite and then often go unconscious as they project upon the writer those things one doesn't want to examine within oneself.

I have found that rather than an "I resent that comment" I could say "I represent that comment."

We've talked about this before around here: all convesations are with myself and they happen to involve other people a good deal of the time.

For me, what is written, thought or spoken by someone says more about the one thinking, writting or speaking than it says about what or who is being thought about, written or spoken about.

Whatever I feed grows.

The following was passed on to my by a dear running friend who is now more of a biker and also has taken again playing music. He lost his wife over a year ago to pancreatic cancer. He is a grounded soul with a mind trained through the discipline of nuclear physics.

AMEN to whoever originally said that. However I have a couple of internet
hounds I know working on tracing our warped little friend, and I suspect by
weekend we will know more than we want to know about him. He/she is a very busy

Heh! I wonder what strict rules she has imposed. "Roger, you can come back

Now there is a funny word, drawers. Sometimes a word just doesn't look
right. Perhaps because in my mind it has fallen from common usage. Perhaps
because I've been a draftsman, but never achieved the vaunted title of
draughtsman. I mean "drawers", it might seem, to the uncultured, that Roger
should stay out of her group of illustrators as opposed to her bloomers. And
just in case any Germans are confused, I mean her bloomers (feminine), not
Herr Bloomers.

compassion and joy might seem a nice way to go, but it would be nonetheless
messy as the alternative. The former, should it win completely, might be

left twisting and burning in the sunlight aboard a ship at sea. The latter
might dissolve like the scene from X-Men where the politician turns to
water. Sorry bad analogies, especially the politician bit which seems
incompatible with an excess of generosity and kindness and the like, but my
point is there has to be a balance.

Now, must run and hug many trees along the way, lest I chop them down.

differently. What I'm into in my personal life at the mo' is mighty

just do. If things go fine, it was worth the risk. If they don't, it was
still worth the risk but, Lord, the price will be hefty. Still, I couldn't
live with myself in years to come if I hadn't tried.

Once or twice in life you just have to put yourself out there, heart and
soul.
