Negative. It take longer thaqn that for your feet and leg muscles to adjust to
them. Try walking in them for a couple of days first. Then do a gradual
buildup.

I did not mean to imply that I would run for that length of time right
out of box. My point was the problem even after break-in would manifest
about 1.5 hours into a run.

OTOH, while I can't not speak to the 2100's I can tell you that I could
take the 20NN series out of the box and run 20+ miles without any
problem and have done that many, many times. If course I don't know how
the 2100's behave. You can never go wrong allowing shoes to slowly break
in but for some models, it isn't necessary.

I've had a few models over the years I could do that with. I think it indicates
a good choice for your feet.

did not know you liked being on the bleeding edge of shoe models doug. i like
others to be the beta site....and then read reviews at rw, rrs, etc...on the
general character of the shoe....and see if a consensus is forming.

gonna go $90, i'd plop another $20 more and take a hard look at the kayano
x....no? do you do most of your off-road running in these shoes doug?

would not turn them into the walk around shoe and absolutely will send them
back for a refund. that's one thing i feel people don't do enough of, "return

Asics and tell them how they screwed you on the 2090 and ask them why you
should buy a 2100 now? Keep/Retain the response..buy the 2100...and then
respond back to Asics on how you feel about the shoe.

The 2080s were the first "real" running shoes I bought, and I was very happy
with them. Unfortunately, when their time was up I found that the 2090s were
uncomfortably narrow in the toebox. FWIW, to answer Lance's
question--dropping an extra $20 on the Kayanos gets you a shoe that feels
and responds quite differently. Which is a waste of money, of course, if you
like what the 20X0s do. It's kind of like saying "I really liked my Ford
Escort, but they don't make 'em any more. Do you think I'll like the Focus?"
and hearing back, "why try the Focus, when for an extra $20,000 you can get
an Explorer?"

I had the GT-2030s back in '98. I don't even remember what they looked
like. All I have in my log is "305 miles, too stiff." I can't believe I ran
that far in them if they really wear too stiff. I assume they've improved
on this model. The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 4 and GTS 5 were the first running
shoes that allowed me to run 15+ miles out of the box. I would like to try
the 2100s and throw them into the rotation.

Is the 2100 a similar shoe to the GTS 5?

i disagree with you and why turn to inappropriate analogies as opposed to
speaking to the issue of the two shoes?

i think you're doing that because you're not very knowleged on the two shoes
and it's easier to speak off-topic. the kayano x has all the technology of
the 2100 _plus!_. in fact, both are made for medium for feet w/medium to low
arches.

please, give me a break..these are not wildly different shoes at all (as you
suggest). the kayano x is a verticle upgrade and it's my opinion that the
majority of the people that like a 2100 would also be fine w/a kayano x.

plus the 2100 is an unknown. you can atleast read dozens of reviews on the
kayano x from numerous different boards and sites. in addition to that,
knowing the OP is into off-road running....the kayano x is going to hold up
better to the rigors of off-road running being a more sturdy shoe capable of
supporting the heavier runnner.
in sum, i don't think it's a stretch at all to sugges the kayano x translating
just fine for the would be 2100 buyer. there are more points suggesting it can
than it can't.

but don't listen to me...if i knew anything about shoes i would not be healing
from severe blisters right now....

go for it dougy, buy into the hype, be the beta site, pay for the R&D and
advertising, let us know how the shoe is so i can buy it in the summer for $39
in clearance when the new 2100 model comes out

As I said I had used the 20NN line for years and years doing all my
ultra training and races in them. The changes for the 90's did not help
me but I don't know if the every one else loved them. Only Asics knows
and I don't think they readily give out those numbers.

I did look at the Kayono but the sole looked just like the 90's so I did
not try them. When you're going to spend 10 to 20+ hours in the same
shoes, money is not an issue.

I do ALL my running in the same model road, trail, 10k, 100miles. I'm
not one to try to shave a few ounces during a race. I'm not referencing

I could have sent them back but chose to keep them for my shorter runs.

I did send off a very detailed description of why the changes to the
90's failed for me. I never even got a form response, Thanks for your
comments.
