  1. Spent that day out on Stuc a' Chroin with a couple of pals yesterday and was
surprised by a sudden, and sustained blizzard that meant we had to abandon
the crossing to Ben Vorlich because of the seriously reduced visibility.
Thankfully it didn't last too long and 200 metres lower we enjoyed lunch in
glorious autumn sunshine with some spectacular views from the southeast to
    southwest!

Maybe 'Treefrog' is a 'gungho' type but my hillwalking pals and I prefer to
err on the safe side and not become MR statistics! :-)

Stick to climbing trees and making a noise! :-)

I wouldn't say gungho, but the way I see it, is life is a big greasy portion
of fish and chips, and danger is the salt and vinegar. It'll kill you in the
end but it just doesn't taste good without it.
Seriously though, when I do a big walk I always take a rope and asorted gear
(a few krabs, slings etc). Not so much for me, but if I could possibly help
somebody else that's fallen, it's worth taking. I also own four ice axes,
and two pairs of crampons, for my winter experiences. See, not so gungho
afterall but a good old blizzard doesn't half satisfy me. The bad
weather/first pint table increases in a linear fashion.

Ribbit. Trees aren't my thing, I live in a town center ;o(. I have however,
perfected my lamp post climbing technique and some buildings offer
    interesting problems.

Good stuff, istm. Wasn't Simon Yates describing a similar sort of
motivation for climing on TTV last week?

Take care (but not too much :-)

    Best wishes,

In the not so old days there used to be snow on the Ben by September.
    Have things changed?
