Is there a difference between sugar you eat in everyday foods like candies or other stuff (table sugar) vs sugar that in things like carrots, broccoli etc? I was at the store tonight and was shocked to see that carrots have sugar in it! Is it the same kind of sugar or a different, (natural kind)? I'm really confused now lol🙂

All sugar is ostensibly "natural". There is an array of sugars in nature, from lactose and glucose to sucrose and other more complex sugars. The link below gives some sugar profiles for selected foods: http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/Data/Other/herr48.pdf
In carrots there is glucose, fructose, sucrose and maltose (plus some unidentified "Other Sugars"😉.

my body sure reacts differently to sugars built into fruits and veggies and sugar added to things.

Thanks.
When they manufacture carrots in the carrot factory they add the sugar in. Didn't you know that?

That's not as far off as you may think. Those 'baby' or 'mini' carrots actually DO have added sugar to make them sweeter as they are actually just shaved and shaped big carrots which have been cut into chunks. The bigger carrots are naturally not as sweet as young ones (like many fruits and veggies) so they readd the sugar to mimic the flavour of young carrot.

You threw me into somewhat of a panic when you wrote that sugar is added to the mini carrots. I don't eat many, but I do sometimes have a handful of them. I had figured out (or "assumed"😉 some time ago that these are really mature carrots cut into smaller pieces, but I never heard of adding sugar. So...I ran to the kitchen to check mine. Whew! The only ingredient listed on the package is...carrots. No additives! So, it may be that now we even need to check packages of what we "think" are only veggies.

There is no sugar in broccoli and so on. The carbs in those veggies is called starch not sugar. It is NOT true that sugar is the only type of carb in existance.

I bet if I handed you a pineapple and asked where its sugar came from you'd be able to answer that it grew naturally inside of the pineapple plant. Wel, the same is true of carrots and any other sweet fruit or veggie.

The same kind but not the same source. Refined sugar comes from a factory and gets added to a recipe. Natural sugar grows inside of a carrot or banana or whatever. The reason blueberries beat bananas is blueberries have a lot less natural sugar. The reason pineapples beat candy bars is the sugar in a pineapple is natural and it comes with all of the fiber and vitamins and such from its natural food source and the sugar from the factory that was made into a candy bar does not.

Any proof of baby carrots being manufactured from larger carrots? I've heard it before and it sounds more like an urban legend to me. For one thing, it sounds very much like fraudulent food labeling. As for many young fruits and veggies having more sugar than mature ones, which ones are these? All the familiar ones I can think of, apples, grapes, tomatoes, peaches, work exactly the opposite. Only when they are mature and ripe are they sweet.

There was a documentary on the Food Network that toured a manufacturing plant that produced "baby" carrots. They were in fact normal sized carrots that had been cut into smalled pieces and run through a tumbling machine that rounded off the rough edges.
