  1. Well, I have been trying to start again for a few weeks now and have had
some good days and bad days. I seem to find an excuse to drink all the
time. I been helping a friend that lives in a home I own clean up after the
massive flooding and that seems to be an excuse to drink. I am starting
again today. I somehow feel better today and feel I can do it. The other
times I started I just didn't have it in me. I don't know how much I weigh,
but I will guess I gained 15 pounds in the past couple of months. My
clothes still fit, but not that comfortably.

All I can do is keep trying and hopefully today is the beginning of a good
streak. I think I can do it. Wish me luck!

Are you gaining just because of drinking? How much do you drink? If
drinking is going to be a problem for you, then your path is clear.

    Hi Curt,
I wish you luck. It's tough getting back on track when you slide for a
while. Keep your chin up and KNOW that yes you can do it.

Curt, I am sorry, are you about 190 lbs right now? And at the height
of 6'2"? Is that right? If so, can you make an effort to stabilise
your weight, instead of trying to resume weight loss?

    i

I think I am around 190 or something like that. Not sure. I will weigh
myself in a couple of weeks. I hate seeing the big number when I look at
the scale. I am not happy at this weight. At 180 that is pretty good. I
figure 177 gives me 3 pounds of messing up.

    Thanks,
    Curt

Are you gaining just because of drinking? How much do you drink? If
drinking is going to be a problem for you, then your path is clear.

The problem is clear for certain, but that doesn't make it any easier. I
love to drink beer. I like the taste and how I feel. I think I will always
like it. The problem comes in when I drink 3+ days in a row. I can drink
on the weekends and not gain, but I start adding more days sometimes. I was
on a roll there for a while. I then eat after I drink, so I can sleep
better. It seems to work for me. How much do I drink? Well, last night
two beers, but that is not normal. Usually I drink 6-10 beers I guess.
That isn't too bad, but I drink Belgium's/micros and such that are double or
so the alcohol of say..a Budweiser.

I just need to get back to 180ish and then I can have my night or two a week
of drinking. I know it sounds terrible, but it is my way of self
medication. I am such a happy drinker and it seems to carry over to the
following days if I have a few. Strange, but true.

    Thanks,
    Curt

LOL, who says I drink alone? I don't. I have some drinking buddies. We
have a great time to say the least. As far as being an alcoholic goes, I
don't think that is a problem. I drink sometimes and then I go for a long
time and don't. I just enjoy it.

    Enjoy,
    Curt

  13. I think you can too. May be best to limit your drinking to one day a
week or so for awhile though. I personally like to have 3 or 4 cocktails
or tomato beers on Saturdays, so I prepare the food, snacks etc., that I
will eat for that day in advance. I only eat what I've prepared. It
helps me not to overeat which is easy to do when you're "happy." I also
like Michelob Ultra Low Carb beer, so that and the little bit of tomato
juice in each beer seems to work for me without causing weight gain.
    Again, good luck.

But, you're assuming the Russians are following logic. My question is this:
Why would someone who regularly gets drunk alone be an alcoholic while
someone who regularly gets drunk in a group not be - all else being equal?
IOW, what is it about being alone that makes a certain amount of getting
drunk a problem? To me, it's like saying if you get drunk every night by
yourself, you're in trouble, but if you do the same thing in a group, not
necessarily. How about this: If I stuff my face 'til I can't move while I'm
alone, I'm a binge eater. But if I do exactly the same thing in a group, I'm
    not necessarily a binge eater.

Typically, common sayings and/or beliefs aren't things that follow logic.

I agree that I could have left out the word "definitely" in my first
comment. But my point is that the Russian saying seems to suggest that
actions done in a group have some redeeming value that those actions done
alone done get. Why would that be?

Curt, I've been reading this newsgroup for 15+ months. One thing that jumps out
on a regular basis from your posts is that you drink a lot (mostly beer) and it
causes you problems. In fact, when I see your name, that's what I associate it
with because it's an ongoing theme. Google "curt" and "beer" and you'll see
quite a few posts, and that's not counting the ones that don't mention beer, but
DO mention drinking. I'm not passing judgment, but you ARE posting this
information here in a public forum and I don't want to tell you it's okay to have
a few beers every now and then when it clearly IS a problem for you, even if it's
just on the weekends. I STRONGLY suggest you attend an AA meeting or take some
other formal steps to get your drinking under control before it takes over your
    life. It's up to you.
