"He started skipping breakfast, and ate just two subs a day, a small
turkey and a large veggie, along with some baked potato chips, and
diet soda. Soon, he cut his daily consumption from 10,000 calories a
    day to just 2,000. "

Does all of this really add up to 2000 calories?

It's posted to the wong newsgroup. Subway's subs are not low carb.

The Subway diets I've seen are 2x 6 inch subs per day, with no added high
    carb sauce.

The carb content is relatively low because the calorie value is low.

Where did that come from? Here's your own post from January 13:

<<You may dis Subways new low-carb wraps, but...
.... they are dovetailing in perfectly with my low-carb plan. Today I ate
the Turkey Bacon Ranch Wrap (with green pepper, ripe olives, some onion) for
lunch, and for dinner I fixed a four-egg cheese omelet with four thick
slices of bacon and 5 or so pats of butter. Both very filling to me. (Of
course I take plenty of supplements and vitamins and usually eat more
    vegetables with dinner).

I plugged the Wrap into Fitday, and along with my omelet and bacon I had a
near-perfect carb day! This is the Fitday breakdown:

    Calories Total: 1580
    Fat:123g 72%
    Carbs:26g 4%
    Protein:92g 24%
    Fiber:11g

The ratio of 72% fat, 24% protein and 4% carbs is as close to my daily ideal
as I ever come. Not only that, but net carbs were only 15 after subtracting
the 11g fiber, all of it from the Subway wrap. (I drank only water and weak
iced tea; may have added an odd carb)

I won't eat it every day, but it's sure nice to know that there's a
restaurant next door to work where I can now get fast food that doesn't
trash my low-carb way of eating.

Incidentally, for diabetics who may be interested -- My BG was 95 before
lunch, and 115 two hours after eating the Subway wrap. It had a minimal
effect and kept me within normal limits for that meal. I'm a very happy
    low-carber today. 🙂

True, but at least at the Subway I sometimes visit, they offer to make any
of their sandwiches in a wrap rather than bread.

Which can make a Subway meal low-carb.

The OP asked a legitimate question about calories at Subway. Marengo
responded by chastising the OP for posting to the wrong newsgroup.

The question was not inappropriate for this newsgroup since there have been

    The Op wasn't talking about Subway's low-carb wraps as I was in that post;
he was specifically talking about Subway's low-fat weight loss plan with
their regular subs -- which are high carb. It's a completely different
    thing.

What sort of loser buys fast food TWICE a day? Are we as a society
that retarded these days that we can't even make sandwiches for
    ourselves anymore?

And how the hell does that add up to 2000 calories? What are the
    sandwiches made out, lard?

If you have the sub on whole-wheat bread, skip the soda and the chips,
it is lower than a typical fast food meal with white bread, soda and
chips. I can see how he may have lost weight and it has nothing to do
    with fat or calories.

IMO if that's all he ate I doubt it totalled 2000 calories. From the
nutritional info on their website, a 6" turkey sub contains 280 calories. I
didn't see an entry for anything larger than that but if you consider a
large veggie sub to be close to two 6" subs it would total around 460
calories. Unless he really went overboard on the potato chips or was eating
something they aren't telling us there's just no way he was taking in 2000
    calories.

I've watched this fellow on TV several times and he seems like a
really nice guy. I think it's great that he is doing commercials,
public speaking, etc. I do remember that one time he said that he was
really, really hungry the whole time he was doing this regimen. His
plan sounds easy but, in truth, was hard to follow.

Does all of this really add up to 2000 calories?

Well, I just pulled out my Subway nutrional chart and, as others have
mentioned, those numbers don't add up to 2000 calories a day. BUT--my list
says the calorie and other info per sandwich is for "meat/poultry, standard
vegetables, and Italian or wheat bread."

On the side of the chart for other stuff, a Select Sauce for a 6-inch sub
runs between 30 and 90 calories; different breads can add a few (up to 50)
extra calories; cheese for a 6-incher is 40-60 calories; and condiments can
add from 0 (venegar) to a whopping 110 for mayo (that's a lot).

So maybe it could add up to 2000 at the end of the day.

Interestingly, if those were all he ate, the total carbs in the sandwiches
would be somewhere around 150 or so. But then throw in the chips.....
