  1. I re-did my diet math using my new basal metabolic rate (BMR). I figure I
should be burning about 2000 calories per day now. With my usual average of
1400 calories eaten per day, I expect to only lose a pound a week in the
near future. This is much less than the 2.3 pounds per week to which I have
been accustomed. My hope of reaching my goal weight by my birthday in March
of 2005 has gone out the window. I'm even worried about my hopes for 200 by
Thanksgiving. 212 might be more realistic.

I tried several BMR calculators on the web. Each had different numbers, but
one of them had numbers that matched my actual progress implied BMR from the
beginning of my diet, so I used that calculator for my current numbers.

The caloric burn rate for 223 pounds is a lot less than it was for 311.

    I feel so frustrated.

Why? Don't be silly, Cubit. Everyone talks about this all the time in
here. Did you really think you were special or something? As you get
lighter your rate of loss slows unless you ramp up your efforts. So butch
the hell up and deal with it. If you want to make those goals, then eat
less and exercise more. Or, better yet, don't worry about them and think
    long term.

  3. Or, better yet, don't worry about them and think

    Second that!

  4. I knew at the beginning that my effort to lose 146 pounds would take years,
but after 8.5 months my intuition tells me I should be done. It is like
driving halfway to Disneyland and then reducing to 25 miles per hour. It
    makes the trip seem endless.

Butch up? Blow it out your ass. You have been sucking on JC too long.

  6. Cubit,

You've lost an enormous amount of weight and seem to have hit a level where
your body wants to stay for a while.

    You have two choices:

    1. Obsess about how you can't lose any more weight, get disgusted and crash
off the diet, and regain all you lost and more or

    2. Maintain where you are right now, rejoicing in the fact that very few
people can maintain a 10% weight loss to say nothing of a 28% loss like
    yours.

For those of us who have pushed our bodies to weights far lower than where
they want to be, those BMR calculators are rubbish. I did enough logging
over more than a year to determine that my body maintains very nicely at
1500 calories while the calculators say I should be able to eat closer to
2000. If I eat that much for a week I gain a pound of real weight that won't
come off no matter what I do.

I'd suggest that you work on improving fitness and stop looking at the
scale. You're a zillion times better off than you were at 300+ pounds.

No, not at all. I'm saying that this is typical and you've got to deal with
it. Cubit knows this as he's been here a good long time. Also, his progress
proves that he can follow the plan, so all he's got to do is buck up and do
it. The truth maybe painful, but there is a lot of pain involved in losing
    146 lbs.

I can certainly agree with that suggestion, even though I think he can lose
a lot more before it truly becomes hard for him to lose weight.

You are wasting your time. The calorie math has never made sense in
the real world. If it did then anyone counting calories would have
lost all the excess weight that they wanted to lose and would have
kept it off easily. But the reality is that upwards of 98% of people
counting calories and restricting fat fail to lose the weight
    permanently.

These calorie figures may mean something. In fact, I'm sure they do. I've
never been able to correlate them with real life. I think it's good for
theory but for application, it's mostly wanking over a calculator.

How are the workouts going? Are you changing them up every 4-6 weeks?
Building some muscle? The scale becomes less and less an accurate progress
indicator as you gain muscle and approach your ideal weight.

I'm sorry you don't like being told to butch up but it really sounds like
you are about to derail all of your hard work over a bunch of arithmetic.
This would be pretty sad. Either stay the course and accept your current
rate of loss or jumpstart the process with more exercise. Those are your
    choices. And , yes.....wait for it.....BUTCH UP!

I think calories of the type where you track them are good, but mere

Exactly. Sorry I didn't make that distinction. I track in Fitday everyday
and definitely use that to determine if overeating is playing saboteur (or
    undereating for that matter).
