Splenda - sucralose, can replace sugar 1-for-1 in baking, yellow packets
Equal - aspartame, can cook/bake with recipe modifications, blue packets
Both are mixed with maltodextrin in the consumer dry products, which
adds carbs. Both are available in liquid form (sucralose liquid not
available/hard to find in US)Tastewise, I love Splenda in cooking and baking. It fails the sweet tea
test for me, though, but so does Equal (Sweet-n-Low is the only thing I
can stand in my ice tea). What else do you need to know?

that's good enough.. i just noticed that most of the pps here use
Splenda rather than Equal. I was just wondering why that was, thought
maybe there were some major differences.On Sun, 01 Aug 2004 22:42:38 -0500, jjmoreta <[email hidden]>

For ME (and I don't claim this for anyone else) Splenda means I get a
sweet taste without the excess calories, while Equal means I'm going
to get a massive headache for the next few days and may have a
depressed breathing reflex for the next few weeks. Then again, I seem to have a very nasty reaction to most artificial
sweeteners. I use Splenda tablets (readily available here in Oz) in
moderation and do fine thus far.Aramanth

I think so, I looked once on Google and found some but didn't bookmark them
as I don't really have a need for them as I don't use sweetener in my coffee
and only occasionally in my tea.In news:[email hidden],

Did you happen to see this? A People's Pharmacy column that was similar
was publish in my local paper a week or two back. I thought that this
was and interesting "side effect."Aspartame for Arthritis

That's interesting. But I remember reading somewhere (can't remember where,
sorry) that aspartame aggravates fibromyalgia. I remembered that because my
MIL complains of having it, but she drinks diet Coke almost exclusively of
everything else.--

in the food? -

(CSPI) website http://www.cspinet.com/nah/index.htmScroll down a bit to an article called "Sweet Nothings" (It's a pdf)

nature, sweet is how fruits signify ripeness and how we recognize
wholesomeness. Hard to get past the old DNA.Pastorio

With Splenda, you grow hair between your knuckles. With Equal, it pops up
between your toes."kcorc" <[email hidden]> wrote in message

interested in getting some to try, feel free to email me (my address

According to Atkins "clinical observations indicate aspartame may slow down
weight loss in certain individuals. "

One big difference is equal is aspartame, which can't withstand high
temps, so it's not suited for cooking or baking. Splenda, made of
sucralose, which is modified version of sugar, can withstand high
temps. And, according to Atkins, he believed aspartame would inhibit weight
loss in some people. I would say most of us here have not seen that
happen. So, if you're losing weight ok, then I'd use aspartame, but
if you're having trouble, its one of the things to consider. -

real food is for those who can't handle sweeteners!
