Shopping last night, I decided to pop in to London Drugs to pick up a couple
85% cocoa chocolate bars (the only place around here I can find them), and I
saw some cereal sitting by a display with all the other "blue" low carb
products I have been seeing popping up everywhere.
It was the Atkins Morning Start Bananna Nut cereal. Thinking it would be
outrageously priced, I took a look, and it was only $4.59 (Canadian). Not
too bad, so I figured I'd try a box.
Had it this morning with unsweetened soy milk (I've really taken a liking to
this) and a small splash (couple tablespoons) of heavy cream. Was
pleasantly surprised for someone who used to follow his nose to the nearest
box of fruit loops and was crazy for cocoa puffs.
After a couple spoonfuls, I added a pinch of splenda to sweet it up a bit,
and it was perfect. Overall taste was a little on the bland side (could use
a bit more banana and nut flavour), but was a nice change from the usual 2
egg breakfast. Found it quite filling. Texture was not bad - a little on
the cardboard side of things, but quite acceptable. I give it a total of
6.5 out of 10. Think I'll add a couple sliced strawberries or some
blueberries next time.
It is now 2 hours later, and I still don't have the empty stomach growlies I
usually get after having only a single bowl of cereal for breakfast. Good
staying power.
A few too many carbs for Induction, but if I can keep finding it for less
than $5, it will become a nice once or twice a week addition to this WOE.
Possibly even a evening meal replacement for those days when you just don't
want to cook anything when it's too hot.
