  1. Shopping last night, I decided to pop in to London Drugs to pick up a couple
85% cocoa chocolate bars (the only place around here I can find them), and I
saw some cereal sitting by a display with all the other "blue" low carb
products I have been seeing popping up everywhere.

It was the Atkins Morning Start Bananna Nut cereal. Thinking it would be
outrageously priced, I took a look, and it was only $4.59 (Canadian). Not
too bad, so I figured I'd try a box.

Had it this morning with unsweetened soy milk (I've really taken a liking to
this) and a small splash (couple tablespoons) of heavy cream. Was
pleasantly surprised for someone who used to follow his nose to the nearest
box of fruit loops and was crazy for cocoa puffs.

After a couple spoonfuls, I added a pinch of splenda to sweet it up a bit,
and it was perfect. Overall taste was a little on the bland side (could use
a bit more banana and nut flavour), but was a nice change from the usual 2
egg breakfast. Found it quite filling. Texture was not bad - a little on
the cardboard side of things, but quite acceptable. I give it a total of
6.5 out of 10. Think I'll add a couple sliced strawberries or some
    blueberries next time.

It is now 2 hours later, and I still don't have the empty stomach growlies I
usually get after having only a single bowl of cereal for breakfast. Good
    staying power.

A few too many carbs for Induction, but if I can keep finding it for less
than $5, it will become a nice once or twice a week addition to this WOE.
Possibly even a evening meal replacement for those days when you just don't
want to cook anything when it's too hot.

I hear ya JC. But with only 5g of carbs per bowl (before adding liquid
etc.), no trans fats, no sugar alchols, lots of fibre etc., it is a pretty
healthy alternative on occasion. I don't strictly low carb, but also focus
on healthy ingredients when I do introduce minimal carbs into my diet.

Thanks for looking out for all of us.

When did cereal become an induction ingredient, anyway? I was under the
assumption (apparently, I've been misled by the book I read in the
library) that induction was VERY strict on the *what* as well as the
*how many carb grams*, but in other phases you could be more liberal
    with what you ate.

One of the purposes of induction was basically to help re-set the taste
buds and drown out cravings for things like cereal, sugar, sweet fruit
    for a short-term self-experiment. At least, that's what I *think* I
read in both the atkins "how to do induction" on the website, and the
DANDR that I borrowed from the library a few months ago.

    YMMV

It ISN'T an induction item. I noted in my original note it also is a little
high in carbs for induction. Actually, it states right on the box that it
is only (if you follow Atkins by the book), for stages 2-4.

Good catch though...I should have mentioned that more specifically in the
    original note.

BTW...do you like yogurt? My favorite way to eat the Atkins cereal is
    to mix:
    1/4 cup cereal
    1/4 cup blueberries
    1/2 cup plain yogurt
DaVinci SF syrup to taste (I use 2 tsp. vanilla)

The cereal adds a nice, crunchy texture to the mix.

I've tried it too. It and the other Atkins breakfast cereals are
excellent, especially now that we have LC Hood milk to go with it.

I actually intended to sort of agree with GT, but only add on WHY it's
not for induction (which, yes, GT already said.) I stated that it's not
just the numbers, but the ingredients themselves. I apologize if it
    sounded like I was disagreeing.

The original post said "It's a little too high in carbs for induction".
That sentence said to me something I've seen in similar other posts from
other people, that induction isn't just an "eat anything you want, but
keep the carbs to 20" phase. That was all I was trying to highlight.

From what I've seen, some people seem to think "the new book" allows all
kinds of weird things for induction, so I had no idea if this was the
mindset GT was basing the original post on.

NOTE: I had no idea at that point which phase the OP claimed to be on.
It appeared to be induction, because GP said "It's a little high for
induction, >>but<< will be good for when I add other things."
That confused me. It seemed to say that GT was on induction, but gave
    the cereal a try anyway.

OK, it appears people didn't understand where I was coming FROM in my
post in which I also added that cereal isn't an *ingredient* for
    induction either.

The first phrase of the above paragraph says "A few too many carbs for
induction". (I don't know what phase the person is on). Induction has
a strict ingredient list, and the above phrase kind of left open-ended
the idea that should this cereal be even lower in carbs, it might be ok.

So in case any newbies were reading, I thought I'd clarify that point.
I guess it didn't come out the way that got received very well.

I've occasionally seen newbies wander into the newsgroup thinking that
induction was 100% about the 20 grams, and the 20 grams could come from
any source as long as it was kept under. So I wanted to basically AGREE
with the OP that yes, it is too high in carbs for induction, but
grains/cereals are also not *ingredients* for induction too.

Hope this clears up any confusion.

  16. I'll have to look for it the next time I'm in London Drugs. I bought a box
of it at a health food store a few weeks ago for $5.89Cdn.
I'm surprised that you found it bland. I found it quite sweet. But I used
to eat Special K pre-LC. Now that's bland!
