I'm saying Marathon Training programs for Beginners, First Time Entry Level
Runners, demand at minimum 75% more mpw than what you're talking about (20
    mpw).

In your post you said nothing that suggested you're capable of doing a Sub 4hr,
or that you're aware of the appropriate trianing for you to do a sub 4, so if I
had to bet, I would say "no"...you're not going to sub 4 on your 20 mpw
    program.

You need to follow a marathon training program my friend...it's that
simple...and 20mpw is a long way from a marathon training program to take the
entry level beginner runner to a Sub 4.

to be real honest with you...based on what i've heard you say to this
point....you should not give a damn about your marathon time. just enter one,
and finish it without walking if possible and be happy with that.
then....define a time target/goal on your second marathon.

I did just what you suggest for my first half marathon (2 weeks
ago). With basically no special training and 6 miles per week
jogging. That's what resulted in my 2:08 time. I feel that if I am to
run a marathon, I need to accomplish a decent result. Besides, what
sort of drives me is if I can run a sub-4 hour marathon on low carb
    without carbo loading, gatorade etc.

In other words, you don't give a damn about what seasoned, intelligent and
EXPERIENCED marathon runners say. You'll do it and maybe, if you're lucky,
    won't get injured.

Why do you bother even posting? Your feeble attempts to show off make you
look even more like the Horse's Ass.

What you may find useful, to cross check, is to run a 10k race as fast
    as you can.

He's actually already got a 5k time on the board, he did it in just over 25
minutes, which means his half marathon time is slow, which suggests he needs
to focus on endurance -- he already has enough speed to do a sub 4hr marathon,
but hasn't trained enough to do well in longer races.

OK thanks. All the food postings eclipsed that one for me :-)

    So that'd give 52'-53' for a 10km yes? I still feel that's borderline
for a 4h marathon even in optimal conditions, but wouldn't argue the
toss on prediction formulae (remember that your page gives me as a
    notorious marathon under performer ;-)

I agree, but just keep in mind that at this stage, "one foot in front of the
other" will get his 10k times down too.

The Daniels prediction formula doesn't work very well outside the 5k-half
marathon range. Other tables like WAVA or Gardner-Purdy are better across
    wider ranges.

Well, there is a place for people who try to do stuff just because other
"knowledgeable" people tell them it can't be done. Sometime's it's a
place in history, other times the looney bin. We can never tell for sure
which it will be in advance. . . .
