  1. This from the same poster with the 13-year-old eighth grader. Thanks for the
comments and I have ordered the suggested book.

I have thus far been monitoring my son but not interfering with what the PE
coach has them doing in school. The every-other-day weight training is
    probably a good thing.

But I have received almost universal concern about his making them run "laps"
in our gym, which is just HS basketball size with a hardwood floor. Local
runners (including marathon guys) and sports trainers tell me that circular
(duh) gym running is a poor running exercise, counterproductive (other than
maybe cardio) and can lead to knee injuries due to the tight turns. I would
appreciate any posters here citing some real sources, such as articles or
books, for this before I discuss it with the coach. Or hearing from a college
level or professional trainer would be useful.

He could take them outdoors for running but for a lack of supervisory personnel
(unless we consider the other coaches hanging around the gym during this
    period).

Couldn't he have them run around a football field or something ?

I'll have a look at my books when I get back. I'm sure some of them mention it.

The poster "Sam" in this forum has some pretty impressive credentials, and though
he usually prefers not to boast about them, he might be willing to speak up for a
    good cause.

    Faked, internet credentials??? HA!

  5. PLUS he's an idiot.

  6. I think the issue here is that this is your son and his health is your
responsibility. If there is a situation that you, as a parent, don't feel
comfortable with his participation, you need to do what is best for him
based on your best judgment, not that of the coach. Get him to a physical
therapist and have them explain to you what is going on with your son's
health, based on what you have told us. A lot of factors play into
adolescent development, many of which require taking a holistic approach to
what is affecting his pain. Get a professional healthcare opinion, approach
the coach, and express your concerns. You may find you are not the only
    parent thinking the same thing.

from the mind, without regard for prior reputations, and not from the

OK, I'm going to choose 2- simple yes/no answer. The simple yes-no answer
is "no". Your quote is not a basis for an assertion that Sam lied. I'm not

Of all the drivel below, I'm only going to respond to this:

Crikey mate, you do have issues, doncha?.
One man's nuance is another man's drivel.

2- Give a simple yes/no answer. which would be the most appropriate
thing to do and it would enhance your reputation as an intelligent
logical and analytical thinker who can answer questions based on fact,
from the mind, without regard for prior reputations, and not from the
    heart or political bias.

OK, I'm going to choose 2- simple yes/no answer. The simple yes-no answer
is "no". Your quote is not a basis for an assertion that Sam lied. I'm not
going to get into a lengthy debate on this, because it's not topical, and
because you're a troll. But you wanted an answer, so there it is.

For someone reputed to be a hard nosed, analytical, no-crapshoot,
straight shooting dude, that sure is some diplomatspeak, doncha think?
Did I ask if my quote is a basis for an assertion that Sam lied? No. I
didn't resort to such verbiage designed to bury a simple question.
I asked if you think Sam lied. Based on his statement:

You remind me of Bush spokesmen when asked a question.

Now, I don't think you are too dumb too understand such a simple
    question.
What I think is that you are afraid of incurring Sam's wrath. Why are
you so intent on protecting him and his so-called reputation? Has it
got anything to do with the fact that he's American and you are not?

I also know that you are wily enough that you slip in the thing about
"lenghty debates, not topical, troll, etc..." so that you don't have
to dig a deeper hole for yourself. A better way out would be to do
what Sam does - simply disappear.

BTW, if you really think I'm a "spokesman for the Bush administration", I
suggest you google my posting history. Anyone who is familiar with my posts
on politics will assure you that I am not "for the Bush administration" in
any capacity, and most certainly not as a duly appointed or even self
    appointed spokesperson.

I checked. You do have impressive credentials. That makes it all the
more interesting why you defend Sam so much? Lost your spine, mate?

Why the X-No-Archive ? Too bad, I'm quoting you (and taking care not to snip),
so you're on the record now.

Cuz I'm a troll, mate. My words dont need to be preserved for
    posterity.

If you don't think your post is good enough that you're prepared to go on the
record with it (even under a pseudonym), then why should anyone take you
    seriously ?

Back when I was trolling in mfw, I had some problems. So I now take
care to use a pseudo and the noarchive.

He could be making it all up, but why would he bother ?

You could be a spokesman for the Bush administration.
You did not answer the question. To repeat: "How do *you* know?"

    It's seldom of
direct relevance. What is of more immediate relevance to topical discussion
here is that he has a better understanding of the research in exercise science
than any other regular poster in this forum. He's already demonstrated a
command of topical subject matter that is consistent with what you'd expect
of someone with graduate level education.

    Agreed.
But, when a person is apt to lie in other situations to his
convenience, anything he says in others settings becomes suspect. You
    just never know when

    > Two, even if he did, I would take anything he says with a barrel of

I'd take him seriously, because he consistently posts informative content on
    the topic of this newsgroup.

You strike me as the type of guy who wouldn't take Jim Ryun seriously either,
because he's a Republican congressman,. Never mind that he's also a 4 minute
    miler.

AHA!!! Now we wade into politics like a saltie. Who in the world said
anything about his politics. (We now know that he is a right wing
Republican hiding behind a Libertarien mask and who's first ever post
(pansy)bashing Bush was provoked by a troll, but then I digress.) I
dint go into politics. So let's us stick to the facts here.

Based on this line he said:

    > I think one of the UN resolutions stated that if Saddam broke the
    > resolutions, the UN could return. The US was actually doing what the
    > UN refused to do since the French, Germans and Russians were getting
    > sweet deals with Iraq.

I said he lied. What does this have to do with politics. Absolutely
nothing. Any, I mean ANY, news source, will show that this is a lie.
CNN, nbc, abc, bbc, fox, any....

So, mate, here's my question to you: Did he lie?

Now there are many ways to answer this:
1- Completely ignore this post since it's coming from a troll. Folks
will understand that but you and I will know that you have acted like
    a chook.
2- Give a simple yes/no answer. which would be the most appropriate
thing to do and it would enhance your reputation as an intelligent
logical and analytical thinker who can answer questions based on fact,
from the mind, without regard for prior reputations, and not from the
    heart or political bias.
3- Fudge like Sam/Bush like to do. But this would put a *severe* dent
in your hard earned reputation as hardnosed, no-nonsense, non-PC, PC
    weanie disdaining, tough guy.
4- You can avoid creating bad blood between you and Sam or other fans
of Sam by choosing to reply to me in email. But again, this would be a
    dent in your reputation.

Let the world see what kind of an Angel you are, mate.
