Here's what I'm wondering - as a non-electrical guy:
If I understand correctly, switching regulators like Willie Hunt's work
by turning the voltage on and off very quickly, so the RMS output is at
the desired level. (Willie Hunt's regulators feature very high
efficiency, so little energy is wasted.)
At the very least, it seems you'd have to rectify the generator's AC to
feed into that regulator. This would involve some loss of efficiency.
But would the rapid switching off of the inductive circuit generate a
voltage surge as the magnetic field collapses? Would this fry the
electronics?
I suppose a related question is: Does anyone know the particulars about
that Lightspin generator and its voltage regulation - the generator that
started this thread?
