able to keep up, as that seemed to be a concern before, as I recall.
Well of course she kept up, she ate lunch with them, eh? On most club rides
(other than A rides), someone will help the new riders acclimate. It's no
big deal. Hell, even the struggle is fun to read about, b/c there's nothing
like a challenge, even if too tough today, there's always tomorrow!
Yep, I kept up, but it was a "Stop and Smell the Flowers" ride, so that
was no great accomplishment. My main goal on the second ride was just
to meet new people and re-meet the ones I met on the first ride (an 18
mile "Stop and Smell the Flowers"😉. I did ride with the front group on
the way back (also not a great accomplishment).
I went on a third ride today, it's a group of C-riders that rides
regularly on Tuesdays. Now THEM, I'm very pleased to say I was able to
keep up.
It was pretty cold, in the low 40's, so I piled on layers, with my
BRIGHT pink windbreaker on top of it all, and I was just warm enough,
but not enough to sweat much. The ride started at 10am and it was
cloudy and windy as well as cold. It was a 30 mile ride -- I've done a
couple 30 mile rides with my family, so I know I can ride that far
without trouble, I just didn't know how fast I could take it.
About 10 miles into the ride, the sun came out, which made it a little
warmer and lot prettier -- the fall color is about at its peak right
now. The first 15 miles of the ride, I kept with the "pack" because I
didn't want to over-exert myself. When we stopped for lunch -- I ate
more sparingly. *grin*
The second half of the ride, I rode with the "breakaway" group and only
the couple on the tandem got back to the starting point ahead of me. I
was really pleased with how well I did.
Riding 55 miles in 2 days was a bit much for me -- my shoulders hurt and
my butt is filing a complaint against me -- but other than that, except
for being tired, I feel great.
