    True. But w/o the mitochondrial contribution, you can't make properly functioning
    mitochondria...hence (apparently) the presence of "ragged red fibers" in certain neuromuscular
    diseases, in the elderly, in peripheral vascular disease, etc.

    Of course both genetic contributions are crucial for properly functioning mitochondria, but without
    the nuclear component mice don't even make it to birth.

    Chen et al, Mitofusins Mfn1 and Mfn2 coordinately regulate mitochondrial fusion and are essential

    Di Pietro et al, Mitochondrial NAD-dependent methylenetetrahydrofolate
    dehydrogenase-methenyltetrahydrofolate cyclohydrolase is essential for embryonic development. Mol
