And some may consider Kerry a turncoat. So what? In those days (60's and
70's) lots of people did things that are by todays standards, not correct.

Give it a lye, and vote on the issues instead.

What? Speaking out against the Vietnam war is the same as breaking the law
or deserting his duty? Not living up to his committments? That is surely
taking Republican partisanship to new levels (everything's relative after
all--if our guy breaks the law, it's okay! But if a Democrat does something
like that, well, it shows lake of values!).

You want to know something? The general public doesn't care. Bush never
made his military service an issue in his presidency and whether he served
or not doesn't really matter to the general public just like Clinton's lack
    of service didn't matter.

Keep harping on it if you want but you're wasting your time with regard to
influence public opinion. The only people who care are people who are
    already rabid partisons.

Kerry's not going to win this election by harping Vietnam.

Kerry's not going to win this election if he allows the lies about his
military service and his medals to go unchallenged.

He's also not going to win this election if he doesn't address questions
about his 20-year voting record in the senate.

Q: Why did you vote against the first Gulf War?

A: I'm not going to have my fitness to command questioned by those who did
    not serve.

    Not gonna cut it.

Oh, but the Republicans continually harped on Clinton's lack of service,
saying it showed lack of character and lack of patriotism, and lack of
values, and obsessive self-centeredness and .....but Bush is different!
This hypocracy is astonishing on the part of the Republicans who hated
Clinton for years because of what they considered his avoidance of the
Vietnam war. Bush has shown not to have good character by his actions. It's
that simple. Of course, he wouldn't make his military service an issue---he
knows the truth about it is something to be ashamed of and only a slim cut
    above being a draft dodger.

But, why don't the Republicans care? It is, after all, a character issue and
we all know how much Republicans harp on "values" and "character".

he's just trying to showcase the difference between a man of character and
one who relied upon his daddy to get him out of going to Vietnam, that's
all. I guess the Republicans can't deal with that.

No one cared then and no one cares now. Besides, don't you think its
hypocratic that the Democrats didn't mind Clinton's behaviour during
Vietnam but are attacking Bush constantly about it.

But actually that's not the point. The point is no one cares. If Kerry
(and other Democratic attack dogs) keep harping on this issue than Kerry is
going to lose the election. It was stupid for Kerry to run as a Vietnam
war hero anyways (he wasn't one - he was there but certainly no hero). No
one cares about a 35 year old war.

  9. There is really no excuse for putting this kind of message on the list.
Prefacing it with OT doesn't really make it better. There are countless
other places on the web set up for this type of posting. Please use one of
    them.

Anyone happen to catch MadTV last night? It was a rerun, and one of the
skits was "American Political Idol" (or something like that). It was
obviously quite old, as it still featured John Edwards as one of the
presidential candidates. Anyway, the funny thing was their having "John
Kerry" answer everything with "when I was a war hero in Viet Nam..." and all
the people around him screaming in frustration from having heard it over and
    over and over and over.

Not to worry - the Swift Boat Vets are now using only Kerry'[s own
testimony in their ads. The truth is getting clearer all the time.

Grounds for application of the 10-foot LART if it gets beyond that.

Truth, egods that's funny! Nothing that the Swift Boat gang does has
any resemblance to truth, or honesty, or honor, or any other
redeeming human characteristic. The Kerry "testimony" that the Swift
Boat ads are using is actually Kerry recounting testimony made by
150 other veterans at a meeting in Detroit, not Kerry's first hand
knowledge. From the Kerry Senate testimony:

"[The Vietnam veterans in Detroit] told the stories at times they
had personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from
portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut
off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed
villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot cattle and
dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the
countryside of South Vietnam in addition to the normal ravage of
war, and the normal and very particular ravaging which is done by
the applied bombing power of this country."

    Dear Werehatrack,

    LART?

    http://www.turnstep.com/Spambot/glossary.html#LART

Originally and only somewhat whimsically, the large club employed to
get the luser's attention so that system policy and instructions would
be heeded in the future. Classically, a piece of two by four about
four feet long, with regional variations.

The definition in practice has expanded beyond that.
