They just arrived. The shoe does appear to meet the label weight claim -- when
I got it, I couldn't believe that the shipping box contained two pairs of
shoes. I've "rubber band tested" it and the pair weighs as much as a single
wave rider shoe (the nikes are half a size up). So the weight claim of 5.6oz
is in the right ballpark.
Summary:
Name: Nike Zoom Streak XC. Seen on Paula Radcliffe's feet at the NY marathon
(I think ... )
Weight: 5.6oz (label claim). Probably under 6oz.
Support: none. If you need "support", do NOT wear this shoe. Well, maybe for a
half-mile. Nothing longer. No medial post, "heel cradle", or anything.
Cushioning: minimal. You'd better not be a heel-thumper if you're going to wear
these.
Sizing: runs a little small. I wear a 10 in trainers, and the 10.5 is a snug
fit. If I were to run a marathon in these, I'd go with a size 11 (but I
wouldn't. Don't run a marathon in these!)
Last: moderately narrow, somewhat curved. Not as extreme as a racing spike
though (I need an 11 in racing spikes).
Recommended for: minimalists, people who like to race in very light shoes.
This is one of the few flats that will keep the purists happy. Mere mortals
may want to consider the shoe for any distance that they can hold a 6 minute
pace -- again, you really don't want to heel strike with this shoe. As a
speed workout shoe it's OK, but you probably don't want to do a 3 mile warmup
jog or worse, a 3 mile cooldown jog in it.
Cheers,
