    Oops!!! Contact seals have more drag than any ball bearing, even with cage. The trick is to use
    labyrinth seals (no contact) but that takes more design skill to include in a hub... and an
    understanding of labyrinth seals.

    After 30 years in the ad agency business, I can tell you that there is a specific copywriting
    topical gel that is used. We shower the staff writers before every client meeting and the marketing
    concepts just flow from them like warm Bullshot. The Zipp copy is really wonderful. Why do you feel
    so compelled to illuminate the retail riff-raff anyway? Come on man, we have an entire industry to
    protect! Shape up and cash in.

    The Teflon self-lubricating retainers secrete a proprietary speed generating liquid that is
    impregnated at the factory. That is a well established industry fact. In Europe, all of the pro team
    mechanics are very aware of the value of what they call "speed glands." When properly fitted and
    adjusted, wheels develop a lot more deliverable momentum which translates into winning sprints and
    superior time trial results. Here they are simply called Teflon self-lubricating retainers. It is
    the very same product.

    By the way, using caged bearings prevents ball crash which can spare your hubs tremendous damage in
    decents. It is one of the things that made the Yugo the automotive phenomenon that it was.

    One of the new tests for lubrication in the future will be the Barium extreme pressure test. Guess
    where they are going to put the supply tube...

    Creative marketing is one of the things that keeps the customers coming into the shops and calling
    the 800 numbers. The bike industry is not in the greatest shape right now. I think it is the job of
    all recognized authorities to find ways to find ways to validate the claims of manufacturers. What
    good is science without the creative process to make it understandable to the common consumer? After
    all, the higher the bearing precision, the faster you will go.

    IsoFlex is a trade name. Barium is the soap. "Exclusive in the industry" means that it's usually
    used for machine tool spindles and not for bikes.

    Zipp is well-known among bike shop circles as a marketing company first and a bike product company second. Never trust any of their product literature.
