Zabriski time gap plot

Egad! You actually rely on CyclingNews time gaps?

Well, I suppose if they're consistently off by a couple kilometers it
would work, which the plot bears out. I frequently see the gap remain
large then suddenly lose a chunk inexplicably and put it down to them
being to busy to keep all the datum correct (like those always fun
variations in distance 70/130, 80/120, 119/0.99999999999, 100/100...)

Here I was looking at the subject 'Zabriskie Time Gap Plot' and thought
this was regarding the

GREAT ZABRISKIE CONSPIRACY OF '04

Sooooo why did Zabriskie get away with this long solo effort? Because
Valverde biffed? He easily could have been chased down, YET, Fassa
Bortolo gave up. Cofidis could have reeled him in, but didn't. Tmobile
couldn't do sh!t after the fish salad caper (say, what did Zabel eat?),
Liberty Seguros and Illes Balears gave it some gas, but they couldn't
catch up Dave, all weighed down by salt as he was.

1) Could it be they decided to let him get away with it, thus exhausting
one of Floyd's remaining team?

2) Could it be they let him scout the road into town to see if it was
clear of kids waving yellow bags?

3) By letting Dave get away all day they could deny Postal of a whole
team car and Tyler Hamilton could pinch their water bottles while they
weren't looking? (Play these pictures backwards and they show the true
story of Tyler pinching water bottles and passing them to his team car.
Obviously Graham was in on the plot!)

4) They're secretly hoping Lance will be shocked that a USPS team
member, who was not the leader, won a stage and not recover in time for
the next TdF.
