Diet is always tossed around like it's a temporary thing. Something done
to squeeze into a special outfit before a big event. Diet isn't that at
all. Rather it's one's hourly, daily, monthly, yearly eating habits.
It's not something done for months or even years. It's something done
for the rest of one's life, starting now. This statement alone can weed
out almost all of the fad diets. Diets which sacrifice certain types of
foods for weight loss. If these types of foods aren't going to be given
up permanently, don't bother for the short term. When the restricted
items are reintroduced, weight gain will continue. After all, food
introduction is probably how the weight gain started in the first place.MelbaTatum said:

My best tip is to only keep things in the house that are appropriate for
low carb so if you're going to have a little splurge, you at least have
to go out for it and usually by that time you won't want it anymore. :-)--

Most of the longer-term posters here INTEND to eat this way for the rest of their
lives -- I know *I* certainly plan on that. I feel better than I have in YEARS.
Other than sugar and wheat, I'm not sacrificing in ANY of the food groups -- I
eat meat, fish, poultry, dairy, fruit and even some grains. If you are going to
continue to spout off about the subject of low-carb, at least read the books so
you have a CLUE of what you are talking about rather than base it on what you
heard on TV and/or through PETA propaganda (which almost always DOES make it's
way to TV). Until you have the facts of low-carb eating straight, you merely
sound like a fool.--

Don't think of it as a diet -- it's a Way of Eating (WOE).

P.S. Not that I consider sugar OR wheat to be food groups unto themselves.

Think long term. If you have one bad day, so what...this is a life long
thing, not some quick crash diet. Just keep moving forward.Curt

I don't think "eat less" is good advice. You can put you body in starvation
mode. Eating enough is important for long term weight loss. Exercise is a
good idea, and I certainly don't think anyone can take credit for something
as obvious as that.Respectfully,

Man, these are terrible tips. Eat less? Duh. I hope there are better
minds at work out there than this.Curt

Eat as little as possible after 5 P.M. or so. I've been trying to
have a hearty lunch about 2ish and then do some exercise about 5 or 6.
I'll have a small snack later, but not too much. Lotsa water. I
like waking up hungry, go for a swim, and have a small breakfast.
Then lunch again at 2ish. This way I eat less, and I can live with
some hunger easily. -

Keep low carb goodies around for the munchies!
I especially like pecans.
