  1. My girlfriend's daughter, age 6, just finished a marathon in
Texas in 5:39. (This is not a joke). Some people thought
this was some sort of record - fastest time for a six year
old, youngest person ever to finish, or something. Does any
one know if any other 6 year olds have finished a marathon?
What was their time? The youngest person she (her mother)
has found that finished a marathon was an eight year old.

Any ideas on where to get more information? BTW, the link is

  3. Yeah, I know it seems unreasonable, but she (Rebecca) really
did it, as well as her mother Kerri. And she is six. That's
why I posted the link, although I know it doesn't give her
age. The post is not a troll. Yes, her mother is a little
    crazy; I love her anyway.

  4. If it's true then you'll need to look in the Guinness
Book of Records under "Parental Stupidity" to see where
    it fits in, imho.

  5. The parent should get time for child abuse. That poor
thing will have all sorts of soft tissue damage when she
gets older. Thats assuming she doesn't kill herself from
    burning out.

There was a 6 year old finisher in the 5th ever Honolulu
Marathon back in 1977, Kevin Greenwell.

The SF Marathon in 2001 lists Kevin Greenwell as finisher
#568 with a time of 3:53 and the correct age to be the
    same person.

I hope my marathon career lasts 24+ years. 🙂

Some interesting Stats from the Top 100 finishers for
    Hawaii 2003. Belgium - 1 Runner Ethiopia - 1 Runner Norway
    - 1 Runner Canada - 2 Runners, with the oldest runner (58)
    Germany - 2 Runners Kenya - 6 runners with 5 in the Top 7
USA - 22, with 17 from Hawaii Japan - 66 Runners! with the
    2 youngest (17)

It appears the Japanese love this marathon, from 1990 to
2003 they have comprised about 60% of the entrants!

Never mind running a marathon, I would find it hard to
believe a six-year old would sit in a running stroller that
long. This would be an extraordinary child, and--to be clear--
    that is not a compliment.

Japan is a highly popular destination for Japanese tourists.
Add to that the fact that many marathons in Japan require
qualifying times (Catch 22 - how do you get a qualifying
time if your available marathons require qualifying times?),
so many Japanese runners double their pleasure by traveling
to Honolulu for the very popular and enjoyable (?) marathon.
