There's already a thread on this. See "Reminders of Danny's incident".

Agreed. That looks as though it could easily have been fatal.

Totally agree. Some lowlife were doing the same in Bournemouth a few years
back, IIRC, on one of the seafront roads.

Yes, I'm surprised that the police are not treating it as a case of
attempted murder. Or perhaps they are and are just not mentioning it so
as not to alarm the perpetrator(s)

I doubt it. It happened in the UK, where cyclists are seen as lower life
forms by the legal system :-(

I notice elsewhere in the thread wafflycat mentioned this happened to her
    son 🙁

is this becoming common in East Anglia then?

Unfortunately I think that sometimes reporting crimes like this in the paper
also "gives people ideas" (yes, /even/ after the injuries etc are shown,
never underestimate the amount of hate and malice in some people)

I am going to warn a few of my friends about this..

I can imagine a Cumbria MP starting to campaign for cyclists to have full
    body armour.

Even this wouldn't protect against this sort of trap.

The neck is usually an unprotected part of the body even if wearing body
armour which is why young gang members are increasingly bstabbed/shot in the
    neck after street disputes.

Why in Cumbria though? AFAIK the only UK places where I am aware of cyclists
being fired upon are Croydon, Birmingham and Milton Keynes.

No, didn't happen to my son. The thread I started said it was reminiscent of
the incident that happened to Mr Colyer of the south-western part of this
parish :-) Wot i sed woz..

Perhaps something like the throat wrap in the following would help.
Probably not very practical for cycling though, but if you are in a high
    risk area ...
