Easter most likely out for me, since I believe the Darksiders are planning
an expedition to darkest Shropshire & N. Wales, where the Welsheviks lurk.
Would /possibly/ be up for an Audax-stylee one later in the year, but much
depends on next year's race & "official" Audax calendars, which are unlikely
to be in place this side of Christmas...

I'm up for it, I'll probably do both rides. At Easter I have tentatively
signed up for a weekend in N. wales with the Leeds & North Yorks
trundlies. How about early May BH for the 3 day tourist ride, later, say
early June for the 27 hour spectacular (27 hours being a maximum time of
course, I'd be happy with 24, ecstatic with another 21)

I did Leeds to Cambridge using part of the LEL route and it was 205
miles - not the shortest route. There is a route profile of the entire
LEL route for which I try to locate the link. I have some jobs to do
this afternoon so I'll STFW this evening. It is linked from the Yahoo
AUK group.

Its a possibility but more work will be required in order to get
controls, especially in the remote areas. Perhaps a tentative enquiry on
the AUK group will yield some suggestions from locals in Scotland.

they discourage new organisers taking on more than a 200, risk
assessments, mentors and all that. Speaking of which just off out to

Last bit to Edinburgh is /well/ lumpy.

It's steep, but not ferociously so. OTOH it does go on climbing for a
long, long, long way. The long climbs before the descents into
Inverleithen and Dalkeith were the toughest parts of LEL for me. Coming
the other way was nice, but even with a following breeze the computer
didn't register much over 53kph. On some of the shorter, steeper
English descents I was getting into the 60s and occasionally over 70.

Maniac sheep were also a hazard on the Scottish descents. They have an
amazing turn of speed, but not much in the way of brain power.

There is such a thing as a DIY Dart where you can get your own ride
ratiified and get the points. Perhaps we can do it as one of these.

Can you not also declare a personal permanent? I've heard about these
but haven't found any information about them in the handbook or on the
website. Someone mentioned to me that Sheila Simpson validates these,
but that is the limit of my knowledge.

Its the same thing I think. In the permanents section on the website is
a DIY Dart and simply says contact Sheila. I think we'd have to declare
where we'd get the controls from not sure what else though.

pretty sure you can do it as a hostel dart, but not sure if that counts
for an SR, permanents certainly do (but not for PBP, they have to be
BRM's). Have a chat about it on the Tour of the Hills, will see what I

done, all ready to roll, even better than last year though I say so
myself

plus of course it starts and finishes in different places so not
strictly a proper event, but would almost certainly qualify as a DART

Why not try the AUK Yahoo group?

Sheila Simpson did the first 600 of LEL (Thorne - Dalkeith - Langdon
Beck) as a 600, she said she had had a virus which prevented her from
doing a 600 and from getting strog enough for LEL, she said she needed
the 600 to complete the SR.
