How mildly interesting.

You miss the point: if you're doing an article about cycletouring it hardly
makes sense to exclude the biggest, oldest, most experienced organiser of
cycle tours. Unless you're a know-nothing journo. Or possibly grossly
biassed.

I thought CTC didn't stand for that any more?

Maybe the journo thought it better not to mention the group currently headed
by Jon road-cycling-is-too-dangerous Snow in an article about road-touring?
