A big V's up to the idiot motorist I encountered yesterday. Imagine the
scene: sunny Spring afternoon, narrow country lane twists its way up
the side of a hill to the top. This hill is my last climb of the ride
home from work; my house is situated at the top of the hill. About
halfway up the hill, there's a really sharp bend where stuff coming
from either way can't see whether there's anything coming from the
other direction.
I get to the bottom of the hill and pass a family on their bikes just
before the bend - Mother with nipper in child seat and 3 other kids,
all no more than about 7 or 8 years old, on their wee bikes, all
cycling up the hill. Just after I get around the corner, Idiot Motorist
screams down the hill towards me. I've seen him before, so it must be
on his way home or something - he's always driven far faster than is
sensible for such a little country lane. Anyway, as he approaches me, I
wave my arm at him in order to try and get him to slow down as I know
the family aren't far behind and about to come around the corner. He
squeezes past and, as he does so, gesticulates at me as if he thought I
was telling him off for driving too fast past me! Fortunately, he
manages to spot cycling family and slows accordingly, but for a few
seconds, I had nightmares that there was going to be a horrific
accident.
