  1. Just curious.
I have two rides. A 'bent and a df hybrid.
    In-town over 20 to 30 miles.
Hybrid: average about 15 to 15.5 mph
Recumbent: average 14.5 to 15.0 mph

    So whats your average??

Not being a slave to the petrol pump: priceless.

  2. Quite silly question, tbh. Cities vary in terrain and traffic signals.
I can cook all day at 22mph+ on flat ground with my light bike. Take
that down to 12mph if I'm on the 35# utility bike carrying a weeks
    worth of groceries.

Your right of course. I guess I should have stated my riding conditions
and asked about others riding conditions and their average speeds. But
then again I have seen similar questions posted here.

Such questions are an invitation to velo-hyperbole! :-D

    I average, er, 27mph in midtown traffic. :-P ;-)

Actual cruising speeds depend on the magnetism of the beer I'm
fetching, a mighty thirst can see 18mph speeds, with 22mph bursts of
    desire.

    So whats your average??

On my mountain bike with knobby tires:

    City: 20-23 kmh.
    Highway: 25 -28 kmh
    Offroad: 10 - 16 kmh

I never measured it to exactitude but on highways and open flat offroad
I'm faster on my larger heavier full suspension. On city streets and tight
trails my smaller hardtail edges out the big brother.

  6. Dowtown Paris: 12mph.
Suburbs (less cars, traffic, lights, and so on): 15 mph. ( almost
whatever the wind is in the range -12 +12 mph.).
Cruising speed around 20mph on the flat no wind.

I am basically convinced that changing my averrage speed in Paris is
extremely difficult (I am faster than cars on trip of a few miles.).

In the suburbs, I tend to be able to follow a car for a few miles with
the car stopping longer at traffic lights than I do. I guess that
increasing my cruising speed from 32kh to 40k/h will result in a slight
increase of averrage speed (maybe 2-3 km/h).
So the same must be true unless I run many traffic lights.

  7. I live in a huge urban area. The only time I can ride very far without
stopping to cross a major road, observe a street light or sign and the
like is when I am somewhere else in a more rural setting. Average speed
can't be very high on my daily rides.
