I just got a new mountain bike (Litespeed Niota to replace my Fisher Sugar 2). The Fisher has Shimano XT 4 piston brakes. The Niota came with XTR 2 piston brakes.
The XTRs are lighter than the old school XTs but they really don't have the stopping power. Is there anything I can do to get these brakes to work better? If I can't I'm going to retrofit the 4 piston XT brakes on the new bike. 30-40 grams is meaningless compared to good brakes.

could this be the old shimano story of fitting pads that last but are too hard to stop well ? you could try aftermarket pads or it may just be that the pads you have need more time to bed in - oh , if you plan on swapping the calipers do make sure that the lever/ reservoir is compatible .

Get custom Ti disks machined. The problem is that crappy steel you got spinning around not having half the pistons. :p
have you tried squeezing harder? or maybe using two fingers... works for me. for stopping power that is.

The rear brake is acceptable. The front just isn't. I think I'm gonna retrofit my 4 piston XT calipers to the front and leave the two piston caliper XTRs on the rear.
