Fortunatly it is a nice and clear picture, with lots of detail... so you can
easily be sure of what you are seeing...</sarcasm>

  2. Hey y'all

Has anyone ever heard or seen an XT rear shifter (8 speed) that would
mount on the left side of the bar. That is that it looks like a front
shifter but is actually an 8 speed rear shifter.

Me neither, but some guy on eBay is convinced his xt shifter is for the
rear when the photo clearly shows that it mounts on the left.

I even emailed him, and he is adament it is for the rear.

    What does everyone think?

    Fear of a flat planet

Yup. Pretend you're looking at the front of the bike not from the cockpit,
but from, say, directly over the front tire.

It's possible one such item does exsist - I some parts of planet they
run front and rear break levers on mtb's like on motorbikes so why not
    reverse the shifters as well.

    Kind regards

More of these http://www.westocykler.dk would mean less cars and less
    polution.

Yeah, forgivable though given the quality of the picture. Took the liberty
of leaning on the gamma a bit to clear the pic up somewhat

    http://www-student.lboro.ac.uk/~elmgs/xt.jpg

I'd guess the guy took the picture on one of these 'camera' mobile phones :
s or something similar with fixed focus.

As far as i know the regional preferences for shifter position are the same
in all countries, unlike like for brake levers.

£11.50 for the one? Wonder what my pair of XT 8 speed V-brake levers /
shifters in one would be worth?

There is a set of them going for about £30 just now on eBay.co.uk

I could make a profit. But then I'd have no shifters :P.
