I was skiing today at Baker Park near Medina, Minnesota when I passed Greg Lemond who was resting on the side of the trail. I couldn't resist, and skied back to chat a while and skied a short bit with him. What a thrill to meet such a great champion. This was the second time I've bumped into Greg when out doing my rounds. The last was on the bike in 94(?), the year he didn't start the tour because of health reasons. Mr. Lemond is one hell of a nice guy and gentleman, both times I met him he made me feel totally at ease.

While I never got to ski with him, I definately found Lemond to be one of the nicest guys I've ever met. Definately somebody who won't blow you off.

Interesting - I met him in his early years and can also report that I was favorably impressed with him as a really nice guy. I just don't understand why he doesn't come off like that in the press or on camera . . .

I met greg years ago when he was still riding for the Renault Elf Team. It was the same year that Hinault left Renault Elf to form the La Vie Claire team. Greg is a cool guy. I just wish that that his riding conduct was a bit more professional

Dumbass -
He used to give a very favorable impression.
Then he started with that "4 virtual Tours" horseshit.
Well, now that you've given away his secret get-away-from-it-all location, all the rbr Freds will be out trying to casually bump into him (between bouts of thrashing around in the snow trying to telemark.) I'm sure Greg will appreciate the humor, if not the free gear scattered all over the landscape.

Anyone know the closest commercial airport to Medina?

Interesting - I raced some with him in his junior years and can also report that I remember him as a little cocky. Granted, he did have every reason to be. After all, we were all thinking that he will be a Euro Pro and ride the TdF someday. I just don't understand why he doesn't come off like that in the press or on camera, he seems so down to earth.

Just curious... When and where did you two (Steven Gee and TimH) race with LeMond as juniors?

Have you never heard of the term "two-faced"? Most people have at least 2. He simply maintained a less-then-genuine public persona like just about every other person that spends any time in the Limelight.
