  1. I want to buy either a home model of a spinner bike, or a used
commercial model. I don't want to spend over $300. I've seen a Johnny
G sport or a Forza Spin bike for about that much. Does anyone know how
    they are?

    Can anyone sell me something?

Given that those are stationary single-purpose exercise machines
instead of bicycles, information and interest here is likely to be
sparse. Don't assume that an initial silence is significant; replies
may take a couple of days to collect for a topic like this.

You might try the misc.fitness.* groups as well.

BTW, the r.b.marketplace group tends to be rather militantly oriented
toward buying and selling stuff, rather than discussing its merits.

Hey, I've been riding for many years, and I have also trained in
rollers and trainer. However, I started to teach spinning five years
ago and I find it to be the easiest way to keep in shape when time is
limited. The spinners imitate bike position perfect. They are very
smooth, and the are sturdy as hell. You can do all out standing
sprints, and they'll stay frim on the ground. also, I don't have to put
my bike on the trainer, and take it out. It will be sitting at home
waiting for me to get a quick hour w/o much prep.

I like spinners because I can do a variety of routines that break the
monotony of indoor cycling, like standing up and sitting down every
second for a minute. Because of my years of teaching, I know enoguh
routines not to get bored, and I still work my cycling muscles, and get
some variety. anyways, the whole point is that, in my opinion,
spinners are a great invention for cyclists.

With that in mind, I figured that someone in here may have done
spinning or may work or know of a bike shop that sells the home models
or that has a used one for sale. I understand about people frown on
advertisements in this group, but I am asking about buying a product,
and not trying to sell anything. I have also posted to the marketplace.

    Why, dude?

I love spinners. Its a great and quickly indoor workout. I've been
riding for the past 24 years of my life and love it. I wouldn't trade
it for anything. But, to stay in shape for biking, when I don't have
time, I've found that crosstraining on a spinner is ideal. I've used
trainers and rollers and the spinners are better, already set up,
sturdier, firmer and give you more possibilities indoors.

You shouldn't be sorry about this. there are other things to be sorry
about. We can be sorry that Bush is still in power. I can't even have
sex anymore. any time I think of bush, then I start thinking of Bush
and then it ruins it. I tried coming out of the closet and thinking of
[censored] instead. But, as you can see, it doesn't work either.

I don't know, I've used spinners, wasn't impressed. I love the newer mag
trainers -- easy to store (tiny), easy to set up (clamp to rear axle),
cheap, reliable and *quiet*. I like using a real bike, I particularly
like using my fixed gear -- gives some of the effect of a spin bike --
allows pedaling backwards. I don't know why, but I find that fun (as
much as any kind of indoor biking can be fun).

Because, man, those things are going, like, nowhere fast.

Fair 'nuff. I have a recumbent stationary cycle available to me in the
exercise room at my work. I have tried it, and although I like seeing
my watts output in real time and being able to arbitrarily set the
resistance at the pedals, when I try the thing out I immediately
overheat. Dumping a kW or so of electricity into a noisy fan would
probably help-- but on a real bike I make my own wind for free.

Admittedly, I have more understanding about the appeal of indoor
cycling now that I live acclimatized to Seattle, where for two-thirds
of the year outdoor cycling is a grim practice. In the dark season, I
harken to the call of beer and coffee instead of stationary bikes,
though. Either of those things can help me muster the courage to ride
into the icy drizzle that awaits me outside.

You really should keep that stuff to yourself. Now it's in _my_ brain
where it might pop up at an inopportune moment! Eeecch. ;^)

Local health club with spinner classes decided to drop them & unloaded
their bikes to membership via silent auction. We picked one up for
about $200, in great shape. This plus some Spinnerval DVDs can get you
through unrideable weather. Might not be easy to achieve your fit set
up. Different crank length. Easier than real bike (you have to really
push it, which is where the DVDs are useful). I'd rather have a
Computrainer and GPS data from my favorite rides.

  10. I have a Johnny G in Atlanta for sale. Where do live.

Someone posted something about crashing a stationary bike during a spin
class a couple months back. It was a hilarious read... I think it was in
velonews or something. Anyone have the link?

Texas? We're contemplating a move there. Is there "cycling" in El Paso?
As in, roads to ride and traffic that isn't a total threat to health
and well-being? Email is ok if you prefer. Thanks, D-y

El Paso is great for cycling. Lots of open roads with no traffic. It is
sunny and warm year around. On weekends, there are abouts 100 to 200
people that leave from a couple of gathering spots for rides that range
from a short 15 miles to a long 70 to 100 miles. You will find people
of all levels riding everywhere, especially in the west side, upper
valley area. whenever you are getting ready to visit, email me at
andresmuro @aol.com. you can also give me a call. Send me an email and
    I'll give you my tel.

If you like riding, running and other hot weather sports, El Paso is
great. there are lots of places to run on trails too.
