I am very happy to see Kloden finally come to the front to show his talent.
Basso was also great today and he looked like he had plenty in reserve.
Basso has had a lot of trouble getting his ITT to competitive levels because
his on-the-bike position is very poor for that discipline. Considering this
Tour has the least distance in wide open ITT kilometers, this is a great
time for Basso to find out he can climb with Lance. Most of you homers
probably never noticed Basso was alongside the front group pretty much each
stage last year. OTOH, how many team leaders could have been (and sort of
were in some cases) dropped by any of their own domestiques?

Lets see if all that money spent at MIT will pay off. Basso surely
didn't look too hot in the Italian National TT.

Jan diesel engine doesn't warm up well in the rain. Takes longer to warm up.
Maybe it will be up to full power by tomorrow, but he will have to stay on
the rollers all night! Lance's very efficent 6 cyclinder has fuel injection
and warms up in seconds! :-)

I think Lance is the Saab of bikers. He has a turbo that once it gets
going takes off like a rocket. Jan does have a deisel.

blow right by them, even if you have a 100hp Saturn.

The one difference between the Basso of today and that of previous years
is the team manager (where was Hamilton today compared to last year
).

CSC has a very good team manager, but Basso is just 26, so the
difference is that in previous years, he wasn't fully mature and
developed. He is maturing into a great overall rider. Watch out for
him not only in this tour but in future Tours. He looks like he's
capable of multiple GC wins in the future.

I had heard it said that he always had the talent but lacked the necessary
focus in the past, although another year closer to his prime probably also
helped.
