  1. Really, I've got to stop reading the paper while eating my breakfast,
one of these mornings I'll choke to death!

This morning I encountered the latest culinary delight to arrive in
Australia from you guessed where. Flavor Spray is squirt bottles of
"FDA approved food flavoring suspension" guaranteed to contain zero
    calories, fat, cholesterol and carbohydrates.

Thanks to Atlantic Monthly I have known for a long time about these
substances, which are listed on processed food lables as "natural
flavours". They can be used to make a piece of paper taste like
anything you care to name. Now some character called David Burke, R & D
Culinarian (no kidding) of New York, is flogging a range of 22 flavours
to punters who find scrambled egg whites a little too tasteless and
fancy jazzing them up with "Bacon" or "Pesto" or even "Chocolate Fudge"!
And he wants $11.95 for 60ml, if you don't mind!

Wow, how amazingly pointless! I'd rather have food, thanks.

Last weekend my daughter and were doing a little shopping when we
encountered these sprays. The store had samples out to try on an animal
cracker. I'm too timid when it comes to trying anything that might be
yucky. Yeah I'm a big baby. Anyhow I tried the chocolate, the marshmallow
and the birthday cake. Not impressed. My daughter went a step further and
tried the bacon and we had to buy her a soda to rinse the flavor out of her
mouth she thought it was so terrible. She's not timid about trying new
things. This is the girl who will eat Bertie Botts every flavor beans!
Bottom line the flavors we tried were terrible.

The Atlantic Monthly rocks. What's up with the no more short stories?

  6. I would most definitely try it for novelty reasons. I would never buy
    it, though.

I wonder if he's who I think he is. There's a restaurant here that
serves just that sort of gimmicky [censored] to people with more money than
sense. It's called -- sound the pretentious horns -- davidburke &
donatello (all lower case, of course).

Since smoking is outlawed in New York restaurants, they've thoughtfully
provided a white Rolls Royce, parked at the curb in front of the
restaurant, for their clientele. God forbid these folks catch a
    *breeze*.

In the list of New York restaurants I want to patronize, then, this
place is just below Shecky's Malibu Chicken and Falafel Shack.

That's him, they mention the restaurant on the website. I'd say he has
considerable experience parting fools from their money.
