OBrbt and tail lights: I tried mounting my rear light (VistaLite
Eclipse) on my relatively new saddlebag last night, which has a fabric
loop that looks like it's intended for such things. Light bounced out on
the first (of many) big bumps and spent the rest of the ride in my
jersey pocket. Looks like the plastic mount is going back on the
seatpost. I suppose I could tape the light's clip to provide a more
secure mount on the bag but that makes it far less convenient. Anybody
else brewed up a solution to this problem?

I solvented a small wedge of acrylic on the bottom inside of the clip.
This forms a much more solid 'catch' tab. It means that I have to make
an effort to push the clip open if I want to remove the light, but
that's the goal in ways. Keep the tab small side to side if you want
to use the seatpost mount again.

Also, thin heavy-duty foam on the inside of the clip will help.

In general- more pressure, slip-resistant, and a positive catch.

By the way, my Vista Eclipses have strange three-slotted screw heads
for removing the clip itself. I've never seen such an arrangement
before. Anyway, a little twisting and pressure with a phillips
screwdriver will get them in and out.

Yeah, that accessory is so uncool that I am almost tempted to use one
simply to annoy certain people and thus make myself even more cool.
This effect would be heightened if the sign blinked.

But if you want really want to dazzle pedestrians and cars, I think

These things have been used on 'boy racer' cars and taxi cabs in Taiwan
and other Asian countries for twenty years that I know of. When I lived
in Taiwan in 1988 I even saw them attached to 125cc scooters (which
invariably sported bored-out exhaust pipes and beetlenut-juice covered
runner boards).

They might help people see you from the side better. That's

I use an eclipse on the same place. Add a rubber band round the lower
half of the light after attatching it.

One minute work, not tools, and easily modifyable.

This is usually a bad idea since these lights have a very narrow beam and it's
difficult to control the mounting angle on a flexible surface. Plus, as you
found out, they fall off.

As to the subject line, if I had one of those BIKE lights, I think it
very likely that the result would be "getting caught dead with it" as
car drivers, laughing hysterically, ran over me. The FRED light
would, of course, have an even higher degree of likelihood of
producing that result.
