Dude, he was knocked out cold and in panic - when this happens you dont
realise pain.
A simular thing happened to me while skating in a wetish skate bowl
last year - i didnt knock myself out though - just took quite a bash to
the back of my head - I was tripping out big time for the rest of the
day.

Worst on a unicycle that has happened to me is falling of a three foot
drop and landing on front, winded is all, and really hurt my back.
worst concussion i had was snowboarding hell fast, and turned too sharp
on ice, and torque acted (for all physics people) smacking my head on
ice so hard it cracked the helmet, which i am incredibly glad i wore.
and what happened next day? i was grinding on a snowboard, fell off and
smacked my head again, luckily i had a new helmet on, which i didn't
break this time:P
So yes, always wear helmets, however, they don't atttract the chicks,
they should make one that emits female attracting pheromones to lure
hot ones:P and the good thing with that is you would have such a fan
club following you always you would get tonnes of sympathy if you hurt
yourself, and may even land on one instead of hurting self.

That rather depends on what you want to do on a unicycle and how
important comfort is. I'd argue rather that riding in a slippery
concrete ditch isn't worth it. Obviously YMMV.

Yeah dude well... I go for it that's just my style, and it just happen
to almost cost me my life but those are the risks you have in any

of heath advocacy and common sense. If it sounds like
I'm being harsh . . . ask yourself this question:

Are you going to go riding in that ditch (fullspeed) again?

What!? I'm not a helmet advocate... or for that matter anything you
said in your reply. You weren't there so don't act like you know, damn.
I'm simply sharing my mistakes with the rest of you so you don't do the
same... it's called courtesy. By the way, where in my story did I say I
was going at full speed? Your little argument/reply was completley
irrelevant and relate's to NOTHING that I said. I hope your not a
lawyer cause.... U SUCK!:p

If you're gonna get on the Internet and knock people's stories when
they almost died then maybe you should just kill yourself b/c I'm sure

The only concussions I have had were from going full speed head first
into the boards at hockey...three times:o

I always were my helmet when unicycle, biking, playing frisbee,
shooting off bottle rockets...etc etc. I guess I'm just used to it and
feel very comfortable in it, which is a good thing when its protecting
my brain.

Man, that sucks.... but MERCYME used to say that if God wants you to

SLAB, glad you're not laid out on a slab. 🙂 What *does* it take to
convey basic survival skills to an eighteen-year-old? Lucky for me,
that style of riding didn't really exist back in my early days of
riding, though I did do plenty of risky stuff back then, before buying
my first helmet. (I did buy my first kneepads and gloves at age 18
though, and used them the first time I entered a unicycle race; I'd
already learned!)

I think your message was pretty clear. This is what happened to me, and
I now intend to wear a helmet for that type of riding. Perhaps you left
out the part about how nutty you were to do all the stuff you had been
doing up to that point with a bare head. A reminder to all, those
bare-headed skateboarders are not setting the greatest example! But if
they're riding in a smooth-sided pool and you're trying to levitate
above staircases, they're still at less risk than you.

As for the helmet you are hopefully about to buy, make sure it's a
skate helmet. Regular bike helmets are pretty weak in the back. Skate
helmets are much better for the type of riding you described for other
reasons, including being able to sustain multiple impacts without
having to replace them.

Tourist helicopter rides generally cost more than the price of a uni,

I appreciate the tip on which helmet to buy. I've been looking for a
solid helmet but I wasn't sure on which one to buy.

You are definatley right about the helicopter b/c as of now my medical
bill is reaching well into the thousands!:o

I've had 2 concussions, the least serious one was from unicycling.

Other then that just hurt ankles from drops and such, skinned/bruised
shins, scraped palms from falling on concrete. And one time I somehow
hurt my knee really badly from doing a seat wrap. It just gave out and
I fell down. I limped around for a while and it was really sore for
the rest of the day. That was a few weeks ago and every once and a
while I still feel it.

And of course, the cut on my ankle that opens up every time I go
riding...

Somehow I have never broken a bone in my life.
