... and he did it really well. Third place behind two tt-specialists shows that this guy is really on form.
Had Vino gone four seconds slower, it would have been a pure CSC podium.

Poor Zabel. Second again.
I wonder how big Bettini's head will get now. The gold shoes, helmet, bar tape, and everything else was bad enough. Now he will spend the rest of his career with world championship stripes plastered on everything he owns.

Watched the live coverage the whole day, a bit of a sleeper - yes the last 20K was fantastic, and the last 10K was ever better!
a brilliant finish, PB had to work hard to get around Zabel for the win - I was loving it!

The wee Cricket's head is finally going to ourgrow his body. He will probably get his skin tattooed rainbow stripes just so nobody can ever forget he won today. He deserved it though, was attacking lots on the last two laps. I was screaming for Zabel to win. So wish he had. He seems to have been around forever, hope he doesn't retire just yet. Also hope Milram don't make him play second fiddle so much to Peta next season. Zabel for Paris-Tours anyone?

I was so disapointed that Zabel could not pull it off...... But PB is a winner. I hope he wears the stripes with pride. They stand for something. For one year we will know who he is.

I agree totally.
Bettini rode a superb race : I thought that when his break in the Rennenberg (correct spelling ?) was caught, that perhaps he had tried to get away too soon.
But the final sprint between him, Zabel, Valverde was great viewing.

Unfortunately I have not seen the race - I am abroad on a business trip. Found out via SMS from my dad. Only saw highlights on the evening news in Russian (😕 no, no idea what they said 😕 ).
Oh well, I will download it from somewhere when I get home.

Stuart O'Grady was prominent : Cancellara too.
Actually Davide Rebellin rode a really good race, as did DiLuca and Paolini and Pozzato.
There were a couple of Dutch riders doing well on the last lap. Vino tried to blow the field away - then Ballan had a go - then Bettini.
David Millar rode a very good race too.

Finally ..... A great day in cycling where the story of the day is about championship riding and not about dope. This is the kind of *day that the riders and organizations owe the fans. We deserve days like this. The only thing better about today would have been able to see Zabel take the win. But PB will represent the #1 jersey in all of cycling well.
* Take note UCI, McQuid and [censored] Pound....

Everyone had Bettini on their short list - I had Bettini, Valverde, and Vino.
And he needs it as a morale booster before winning the Lombardia again this year...
That would make two monuments won by two World Champions in the same year!
