  1. My current weight: 147 lbs
Weight change since my last recorded weight: -5 lbs
Total weight change to date: -85 lbs

Plummeted to reach two mini-goals, first to weigh less than
150, and second to have lost 85 lbs overall. I now drop two
daily points to 20, and I'm 2 lbs from my WW goal. One of
these days, I'll have to set my personal goal.

I can explain this week's drop. First, I painted my kitchen
and bathroom last weekend, and stripped the layers of
acrylic paint off one side of the basement door. I munched
almost the entire day on whatever was at hand (mostly fat-
free pretzels that I use for lunches). By the end of day
one, I was ravenous and tired; the thought of cooking, or
even using the microwave in the basement, required more
effort than I could muster. I ordered a medium Fit N
Delicious veggie pizza from Pizza Hut, along with a salad,
and ended up eating the entire thing in one sitting. Dinner
alone was 24 points. Day two went similarly, except that
instead of eating pretzels, I got through the day on ice
cream. I don't remember what I ate for dinner. Maybe more
ice cream. Between the two days, I ate all my daily points
PLUS all of my flex points and then some. By Monday morning,
the scale was up 3 lbs over Saturday's WI. I figure that was
mostly water retention from the sodium-heavy eating on
Saturday plus the sore muscles from painting.

Monday I got right back on program, eating only my daily
points spread over 3 regular meals. Tuesday I ate a little
under my daily points, spread over 3 regular meals. By
Wednesday, I was eating about half my daily points, not
    eating dinner at all.

Here's the deal: Construction is rapidly coming to a close.
By the end of Monday, I'll have a fully functioning bathroom
and kitchen. By the end of Tuesday, 98% of the work will be
done. This week was a frenzy of activity and decision-making
and fretting as everything started coming together. Every
evening I had to inspect the day's work and take in all the
things that delighted me and then go back over everything,
making notes about questions and things left undone or done
incorrectly. Then I'd have to make a trip to the hardware
store for some item or two I'd forgotten I needed. I was too
busy to eat. And I had no appetite. The butterflies in my
stomach left no room for food.

Other than last week's painting, no exercise.

I fully expect to gain back some of this week's whoosh once
life returns to some semblance of normal. But I figure a
    kitchen/bath remodel is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and
so has been my way of eating this week. Not a chance that
I'll make a lifetime habit of not eating. But it's nice to
be in the 140s, if only for another day or two. I haven't
seen this decade on the scale since I was in high school
    more than 30 years ago.

This weekend I'm stripping paint again, this time the
bathroom door frame. Monday I'm taking the day off from work
to hover over the plumbers while they install all of my
appliances and fixtures. Everything is so beautiful, I'm
having a hard time believing it's MY house being
transformed. That's not so different from my disbelief about
having lost 85 lbs and wearing size 8 petite pants. These
days the gratitude I'm feeling for the changes in my life
    reduces me to tears.

It's the best day of my life!

  2. Wow. You deserve the whoosh fairy you send to the others :-)
What a great loss, and what a great post! While reading it I
was indeed making the parallel between the changes in your
house and the changes to yourself and then I saw you did the
same at the end of your post. A brand new kitchen and
bathroom and a brand new Linda... keep at it, you are so
    incredibly motivating!

  4. Thanks Nathalie. My renovation project has split me wide
open emotionally. It's a powerful experience to walk into a
room that 6 weeks ago I called the walls of shame and now
looks close to a magazine photo spread that I can't wait to
show people. The connection between my house renovation and
the two rooms in particular--the guts and the heart--is not
lost on me. I feel like I'm coming out of hiding!

  6. Sheesh, maybe I should just repeat last week's
    congratulatory, well, CONGRATULATIONS.

Most impressive, even if it does turn out to be an interim
and temporary loss because more than likely it has primed to
    you get there again anyway.

You have been busy and active even if it was of a less
organized or recognized nature (like walking or biking).
Besides, I think you shook up things by eating little and
    lots and in between.

    Congrats, again. Well-done.

a chance that I'll make a lifetime habit of not eating.
But it's nice to be in the 140s, if only for another day
or two. I haven't seen this decade on the scale since I
was in high school more than 30 years ago.

This weekend I'm stripping paint again, this time the
bathroom door frame. Monday I'm taking the day off from
work to hover over the plumbers while they install all of
my appliances and fixtures. Everything is so beautiful,
I'm having a hard time believing it's MY house being
transformed. That's not so different from my disbelief
about having lost 85 lbs and wearing size 8 petite pants.
These days the gratitude I'm feeling for the changes in my
    life reduces me to tears.

It's the best day of my life!

  8. Oh my goodness, what a whoosh! I guess that is what happens
when you don't eat dinner for a week. You should call the
National Enquirer, I'm sure that they would be interested in
that diet ;-). I hope that the 5 lbs stays gone!!

I think it is great that your house is being transformed!!
You will be so happy when it's done (although it sounds like
    you are pretty happy now!!)

Plummeted to reach two mini-goals, first to weigh less
than 150, and second to have lost 85 lbs overall. I
now drop two daily points to 20, and I'm 2 lbs from my
WW goal. One of these days, I'll have to set my
    personal goal.

I can explain this week's drop. First, I painted my
kitchen and bathroom last weekend, and stripped the layers
of acrylic paint off one side of the basement door. I
munched almost the entire day on whatever was at hand
(mostly fat-free pretzels that I use for lunches). By the
end of day one, I was ravenous and tired; the thought of
cooking, or even using the microwave in the basement,
required more effort than I could muster. I ordered a
medium Fit N Delicious veggie pizza from Pizza Hut, along
with a salad, and ended up eating the entire thing in one
sitting. Dinner alone was 24 points. Day two went
similarly, except that instead of eating pretzels, I got
through the day on ice cream. I don't remember what I ate
for dinner. Maybe more ice cream. Between the two days, I
ate all my daily points PLUS all of my flex points and
then some. By Monday morning, the scale was up 3 lbs over
Saturday's WI. I figure that was mostly water retention
from the sodium-heavy eating on Saturday plus the sore
    muscles from painting.

Monday I got right back on program, eating only my daily
points spread over 3 regular meals. Tuesday I ate a little
under my daily points, spread over 3 regular meals. By
Wednesday, I was eating about half my daily points, not
    eating dinner at all.

Here's the deal: Construction is rapidly coming to a
close. By the end of Monday, I'll have a fully
functioning bathroom and kitchen. By the end of Tuesday,
98% of the work will be done. This week was a frenzy of
activity and decision-making and fretting as everything
started coming together. Every evening I had to inspect
the day's work and take in all the things that delighted
me and then go back over everything, making notes about
questions and things left undone or done incorrectly.
Then I'd have to make a trip to the hardware store for
some item or two I'd forgotten I needed. I was too busy
to eat. And I had no appetite. The butterflies in my
stomach left no room for food.

Other than last week's painting, no exercise.

I fully expect to gain back some of this week's whoosh
once life returns to some semblance of normal. But I
    figure a kitchen/bath remodel is a once-in-a-lifetime

  11. Thanks Fred. This week was definitely an anomaly. Everything
is so close to being done in my kitchen I can hardly stand
it. I am so through with tredging down to the basement to
microwave or grill. The countertop was installed on Friday
and the electricity hooked up so yesterday I brought up my
crockpot and slowcooked a batch of my normal
    (i.e. pre-construction) breakfast food: McCann's steel cut
oatmeal. Heated up a bowl for breakfast this morning
in my new and installed microwave and almost wept, it
tasted so delicious. And normal. Brought up my
coffeemaker, which I haven't used since the 2nd week
of construction. Again, normal. The upcoming week will
have my life quickly returning to normal, or an
improved version of normal, where everything works,
looks beautiful, and I don't have to worry that the
bathroom will collapse into the kitchen.

    Fred said:

Sheesh, maybe I should just repeat last week's
    congratulatory, well, CONGRATULATIONS.

Most impressive, even if it does turn out to be an interim
and temporary loss because more than likely it has primed
to you get there again anyway.

You have been busy and active even if it was of a less
organized or recognized nature (like walking or biking).
Besides, I think you shook up things by eating little and
    lots and in between.

    Congrats, again. Well-done.

  13. Thanks Connie. I think ecstatic comes closer to describing
how I'm feeling these days. And grateful. And awestruck. And
    exhausted. And very, very pleased.

Something in my psyche says I'm not supposed to have or want
nice things. I've lived a long time settling for less.
Seeing all this loveliness coming together, in my house, is
    truly a wonder.

    My current weight: 147 lbs
Weight change since my last recorded weight: -5 lbs
Total weight change to date: -85 lbs

Plummeted to reach two mini-goals, first to weigh less than 150, and
second to have lost 85 lbs overall. I now drop two daily points to 20,
and I'm 2 lbs from my WW goal. One of these days, I'll have to set my
    personal goal.

I can explain this week's drop. First, I painted my kitchen and
bathroom last weekend, and stripped the layers of acrylic paint off
one side of the basement door. I munched almost the entire day on
whatever was at hand (mostly fat-free pretzels that I use for
lunches). By the end of day one, I was ravenous and tired; the thought
of cooking, or even using the microwave in the basement, required more
effort than I could muster. I ordered a medium Fit N Delicious veggie
pizza from Pizza Hut, along with a salad, and ended up eating the
entire thing in one sitting. Dinner alone was 24 points. Day two went
similarly, except that instead of eating pretzels, I got through the
day on ice cream. I don't remember what I ate for dinner. Maybe more
ice cream. Between the two days, I ate all my daily points PLUS all of
my flex points and then some. By Monday morning, the scale was up 3
lbs over Saturday's WI. I figure that was mostly water retention from
the sodium-heavy eating on Saturday plus the sore muscles from
    painting.

Monday I got right back on program, eating only my daily points spread
over 3 regular meals. Tuesday I ate a little under my daily points,
spread over 3 regular meals. By Wednesday, I was eating about half my
daily points, not eating dinner at all.

Here's the deal: Construction is rapidly coming to a close. By the end
of Monday, I'll have a fully functioning bathroom and kitchen. By the
end of Tuesday, 98% of the work will be done. This week was a frenzy
of activity and decision-making and fretting as everything started
coming together. Every evening I had to inspect the day's work and
take in all the things that delighted me and then go back over
everything, making notes about questions and things left undone or
done incorrectly. Then I'd have to make a trip to the hardware store
for some item or two I'd forgotten I needed. I was too busy to eat.
And I had no appetite. The butterflies in my stomach left no room for
    food.

Other than last week's painting, no exercise.

I fully expect to gain back some of this week's whoosh once life
returns to some semblance of normal. But I figure a kitchen/bath
remodel is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and so has been my way of
eating this week. Not a chance that I'll make a lifetime habit of not
eating. But it's nice to be in the 140s, if only for another day or
two. I haven't seen this decade on the scale since I was in high
school more than 30 years ago.

This weekend I'm stripping paint again, this time the bathroom door
frame. Monday I'm taking the day off from work to hover over the
plumbers while they install all of my appliances and fixtures.
Everything is so beautiful, I'm having a hard time believing it's MY
house being transformed. That's not so different from my disbelief
about having lost 85 lbs and wearing size 8 petite pants. These days
the gratitude I'm feeling for the changes in my life reduces me to
    tears.

It's the best day of my life!

  16. Linda,

I am a Trading Spaces/home improvement fanatic those are
most of what I watch when I watch TV. So I like to see the
    before and after transformations.

I am still waiting to hear from my contractor with the bid
for my new cupboards and the upgrades to my one bathroom. He
seems to be dragging his feet though getting it to me, so I
guess I will have to make a phone call this week to him to
see where it is. I got a bid for new dual pane windows
throughout my house and that truly scared me. It was a lot
more than I had expected, but I am sure they would pay for
themselves in a short time with the energy savings on the
    gas/electric bill.

    Thanks for asking.

  17. Don't mention windows. I'm in total denial about the need to
update/replace the 24 windows in my house. Actually, one
reason I'm contributing sweat equity to this renovation
project is that I'm trying to find $5000 in the budget to
get new storms and screens all around. You're right about
the return on investment in energy savings.

I used to be an avid fan of Trading Spaces & Changing Rooms.
But now that I'm a home improvement participant, I've
cancelled my satellite TV subscription and my Netflix.com
membership, and earning activity points slinging paint. With
the new configuration of my kitchen, the doors of my
refrigerator/freezer needed to open from the opposite side.
My contractor offered to do it for me, and I assumed I would
let him to do. But yesterday, I got a notion and did it
myself. Halfway through the job I wondered what I'd gotten
myself into and how I'd get myself out of it. Kept going,
and what would have taken an experienced person an hour to
do, I finished in 5. But I did it myself. Without help.
Except, perhaps, for some divine intervention from my dad
who must have been looking over my shoulder. I have most of
his tools, you see, and he left a bit of his spirit in them.

I hope you have as much fun with your project as I've had

  18. My refrigerator still opens the wrong way in my kitchen, but
I am used to it and it is only a minor inconvenience. We
have lived here for 5 years now with it like this, so I will
just continue on with it that way. I have seen all the
beautiful new stainless appliances and I love them, but they
are not in my future for a while. I only have 8 windows in
my home plus a sliding glass door and it still is over $6000
to replace them all. Of course, I think these were top of
the line windows. I guess I should be grateful I have a
single story house and only that amount of windows. I just
changed the interest rate on my mortgage and the new payment
is about $210 lower than the previous one, so maybe I will
find the money in my budget to do the windows at least. The
oldest in college is expensive though and since I am paying
her tuition without any help from her dad, sometimes there
is no money left for mom or the house. My priorities are
always my kids and rarely me. The only thing that is for me
is WW and my nails. Even the gym membership was purchased
with the kids in mind, not me, but the family membership is
required with the kids. Just as well now too as, I am the
only one that really uses it.

  19. I am excited for you. I recall my kitchen being (almost)
complete. It really was a pleasure and I can tell by your
enthusiasm that it is working and looking FINE.

Good ol' McCann's - had some this morning, too. Really good
stuff especially when cooked in a new kitchen.

    REALLY, REALLY

Thanks Fred. This week was definitely an anomaly.
Everything is so close to being done in my kitchen I can
hardly stand it. I am so through with tredging down to the
basement to microwave or grill. The countertop was
installed on Friday and the electricity hooked up so
yesterday I brought up my crockpot and slowcooked a batch
    of my normal
    (i.e. pre-construction) breakfast food: McCann's steel cut
oatmeal. Heated up a bowl for breakfast this morning
in my new and installed microwave and almost wept, it
tasted so delicious. And normal. Brought up my
coffeemaker, which I haven't used since the 2nd week
of construction. Again, normal. The upcoming week
will have my life quickly returning to normal, or an
improved version of normal, where everything works,
looks beautiful, and I don't have to worry that the
bathroom will collapse into the kitchen.

Well-done.

My current weight: 147 lbs Weight change since my last
recorded weight: -5 lbs Total weight change to date:
    -85 lbs

Plummeted to reach two mini-goals, first to weigh less
than 150, and second to have lost 85 lbs overall. I
now drop two daily points to 20, and I'm 2 lbs from my
WW goal. One of these days, I'll have to set my
    personal goal.

I can explain this week's drop. First, I painted my
kitchen and bathroom last weekend, and stripped the
layers of acrylic paint off one side of the basement
door. I munched almost the entire day on whatever was at
hand (mostly fat-free pretzels that I use for lunches).
By the end of day one, I was ravenous and tired; the
thought of cooking, or even using the microwave in the
basement, required more effort than I could muster. I
ordered a medium Fit N Delicious veggie pizza from Pizza
Hut, along with a salad, and ended up eating the entire
thing in one sitting. Dinner alone was 24 points. Day two
went similarly, except that instead of eating pretzels, I
got through the day on ice cream. I don't remember what I
ate for dinner. Maybe more ice cream. Between the two
days, I ate all my daily points PLUS all of my flex
points and then some. By Monday morning, the scale was up
3 lbs over Saturday's WI. I figure that was mostly water
retention from the sodium-heavy eating on Saturday plus
    the sore muscles from painting.

Monday I got right back on program, eating only my daily
points spread over 3 regular meals. Tuesday I ate a
little under my daily points, spread over 3 regular
meals. By Wednesday, I was eating about half my daily
points, not eating dinner at all.

But I
    figure a kitchen/bath remodel is a once-in-a-lifetime
experience and so has been my way of eating this week.
Not a chance that I'll make a lifetime habit of not
eating. But it's nice to be in the 140s, if only for
another day or two. I haven't seen this decade on the
scale since I was in high school more than 30 years ago.

This weekend I'm stripping paint again, this time the
bathroom door frame. Monday I'm taking the day off from
work to hover over the plumbers while they install all of
my appliances and fixtures. Everything is so beautiful,
I'm having a hard time believing it's MY house being
transformed. That's not so different from my disbelief
about having lost 85 lbs and wearing size 8 petite pants.
These days the gratitude I'm feeling for the changes in
my life reduces me to tears.

It's the best day of my life!
