  1. The more observant of you will notice that over the last few days I
have been posting at unusual hours of the day. I am currently in
Colorado with my new job, my first week was here and tomorrow I am
going to Boston. This weekend I took a couple of scenic drives.
Saturday I went to Rocky Mountain National Park, the approach was
gorgeous, I really wish I'd rented a bike and pedalled instead of
driven. There were many cyclists on the road making me very envious.
As I ascended Trail Ridge Road (12,000ft)the weather turned to showers
then sleet, at one point it was a white out ! Chapeau to the cyclists
who were up there, RESPECT. Glad I wasn't cycling. Interesting bike
parking in Boulder, completely enclosed lockers at the bus station, I
think it said that you could buy a lock for $20 and use the locker for
6 months, didn't see how much to use your own lock. BTW I went to
Vecchios, Peter Chisholms, from rec.bicycles.tech, shop, got myself a
classic Campag hat with Vecchios on the peaks.

Sunday I retraced part of the route I cycled in 1990 when I crossed
the US. Oddly some parts came flooding back to me but some were not
clear at all. Fremont Pass (11,318 ft), the only place I thought I
might die whilst cycling. First time it was raining and cold, I was
shivering on the descent so I hitched a lift. Today I didn't
recognise the climb, maybe because last time I was looking at the road
to keep out of the rain ! I did recognise the office at the top where
I sheltered. I remembered Loveland Pass pretty clearly, thought it was
longer than 4 miles though. Independence Pass, the big one at 12,096
feet, wicked descent, about 30 miles, ooo I wished I could have ridden
it again. A great trip down memory lane, lasted over 300 miles !

Thanks for the TR. I love Boulder but haven't been there for years.

    Is Dino's Diner still operating?

And please tell if you met Pete Chisholm, and if so is he as crusty in real life
    as on RBT? :-)

What are your cycling plans in/around Boston? If you haven't been there
before, the Mt. Washington Valley (New Hampshire, north of North Conway) has
    some excellent cycling roads.

Any plans to visit Harris Cycles/Sheldon Brown?

Is that where the Ute Trail crosses the Rockies? If so, I was up there
being simmilarly impressed by the Roadies gasping over the top in what I
considered to be a pretty rarified atmosphere.
    Hats off indeed.

Nice to hear from you BTW

I drove over that one last September; there were a few roadies torturing
themselves on it. Cries of "Respec'" rent the air...

My map of RMNP shows Ute Trail starting/ending on Trail Ridge Road at about
11,400 ft, with the high point of Trail Ridge Road at about 12,100 ft.

You make your road bike wear shorts? Presumably not the bib variety
    though...

    I don't think Peter was around. I didn't ask though. I thought I'd
seen a picture of Peter on their website, maybe I hadn't, either way I
have a mental image of Mr Chisholm and the guy I met didn't fit it.
The shop is pretty cool, like they say not a great deal of stock on
display but aimed at repairs. I think they had Tour de France
Soundtracks by Kraftwerk on in the background and coupled with the old
reacing jerseys and posters made for a nice atmosphere.

In Boston I have no spare time, I am attending a training course so
will not be checking out bike shops or facilities unfortunately. By
the time I get home it''ll be nearly two weeks since I have been
cycling, I can't wait to hit the road again.

At the site I am at this week is a poster featuring four American
sportsmen, one of whom is Tyler Hamilton promoting the use of helmets
! The other guys are baseball, football and probably a racing car
    dudes.

I am actually based in Leeds with the new job. The company HQ is in
Colorado and I am just here for initiation and training. I am very
happy to land a job in Leeds, its only 4.5 miles from my home and
after two years of driving to work I can finally cycle again. The
office does not have free parking so its just the push I need to leave
my car at home. So I'll be riding up Churwell Hill on a regular basis
    again.
