Taken from somewhere else:
Mechanical disc brakes are:
a: A little heavier
b: No better than good V brakes (but a little better than cantilevers,
and significantly better than dual pivot calipers).
c: More prone to damage (oh look, I've just bent the rotor)
d: Attract theft
e: More expensive
Do we assume that by 'mechanical' you mean cable-operated? Hydraulic
ones offer many advantages.
Some advantages: chiefly, better feel and better modulation. Still suffer
from problems a, c, d and e.
Oh yes, I quite agree, although d is really a UK problem that's
thankfully behind me. Not sure about c, either, but I've only been
using mine for a short while, so I'll bow to your experience.

AOL. I do like the feel of the disks though (Juicy threes, if it makes
a difference). Certainly seem much more pressure sensitive (I guess
that's what you mean be 'modulation'😉. Point e, thankfully, is also
one I no longer need to worry too much about.
